Even if there were a Qur’an that could move mountains, cleft the earth asunder or make the dead speak (do you think the result would have been different?) Surely all things are subject to Allah’s Will. Have not yet the believers been satisfied that if Allah wanted, He would have certainly guided the whole of mankind? As for the unbelievers, the disaster will not cease to afflict them every now and then or strike close to their homes for their misdeeds, until the promise of Allah is fulfilled; surely Allah will not fail His promise.
Meaning:-

And indeed (many) Messengers were mocked at before you (O Muhammad), but I granted respite to those who disbelieved, and finally I punished them. Then how (terrible) was My Punishment!
Meaning:-
Mock: to make fun of, to laugh at someone or something and try to make them look stupid by saying unkind things about them
Respite: a period of temporary delay, postpone.
13:33
Then is He who is a maintainer of every soul, [knowing] what it has earned, [like any other]? Yet the pagans have associated others with Allah ˹in worship˺. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Name them! Or do you ˹mean to˺ inform Him of something He does not know on the earth? Or are these ˹gods˺ just empty words?” In fact, the disbelievers’ falsehood has been made so appealing to them that they have been turned away from the Path. And whoever Allah leaves to astray will be left with no guide.
Meaning:-
Pagans: is a person who worships many gods or who worships nature and the Earth
Falsehood: lie, untruth, fabrication, fairy tale.
Astray: into error, away from the correct path or direction
13:34
For them will be punishment in the life of [this] world, and the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe. And they will not have from Allah any protector.
13:35
The example of Paradise, which the righteous have been promised, is [that] beneath it rivers flow. Its fruit is lasting, and its shade. That is the consequence for the righteous, and the consequence for the disbelievers is the Fire.
Meaning:-
Beneath: below; in or to a lower place, position, underneath
consequence: a result of a particular action, often one that is bad.
13:36
O Prophet, some of those to whom We have given the Book (i.e. the Quran) rejoice at what is revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺, while there are some factions who deny a part of it. Tell them: “I am commanded to worship Allah and to associate none with Him. To Him I invite you and to Him I shall return.”
Meaning:-:-
Faction:-: a group, small group with different opinions.
13:37
With these instructions, We have revealed this commandment in the Arabic language. Now, if you were to follow their desires after ˹all˺ the knowledge that has come to you, there will be none to save you or protect you against the wrath of Allah.
Meaning:-
Wrath extreme anger, great anger that expresses itself in a desire to punish someone.
13:38
We have sent forth other Messengers before you (O Muhammad) and given them wives and children and it was never in the power of a Messenger to show any miracle without the permission of Allah. For each period is a Book (revealed).
13:39
Allah abrogates and confirms what He pleases – with Him is the Master Copy of the Book.
Meaning:-
Abrogate: repeal or to officially revoke, cancel or abolish.
13:40
O Muhammad! Whether We let you see, within your lifetime, a part of what We threaten them with or cause you to die ˹before that˺, your duty is only to deliver ˹the message˺. Judgment is for Us.
13:41
Do they not see that We are gradually reducing the land in their control through curtailing its borders? When Allah commands, there is none to reverse His command and He is swift in taking accountability.
Meaning:-
Curtailing: impose a restriction on. put restrictions on it, or stop it entirely.
13:42
Those unbelievers who have passed before them also devised plots; but Allah is the Master of all planning. He knows the actions of every soul. Soon the unbelievers will come to know who will get the home of paradise in the hereafter.
13:43
And those who have disbelieved say, “You are not a messenger.” Say, [O Muhammad], “Sufficient is Allah as Witness between me and you, and [the witness of] whoever has knowledge of the Book.”
15:1
Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Quran.
15:2
Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.
15:3
Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know!
15:4
We have never destroyed a town unless it had a set time.
15:5
No nation can advance its time, nor delay it.
15:6
They say: “O you to whom the reminder (The Qur’an) is being revealed! You are surely insane.
Meaning:-
Insane: mentally ill, mentally disordered.
15:7
Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?”
15:8
O Muhammad, tell them: “We send down the angels only to bring justice, and when they come, people are not given respite.
Meaning:-
Respite: a period of temporary delay, A usually short period of rest or relief.
15:9
Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Quran and surely, We will guard it ‘from corruption‘.
Meaning:-
Corruption: Debasement or alteration, as of language or a text.
15:10
Certainly We sent messengers before you among the early nations;
15:11
And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.
Meaning:-
Ridicule: is to make fun of, unkindly with the intention of humiliating, to laugh at someone or something in an unkind way.
15:12
This is how We allow disbelief ˹to steep˺ into the hearts of the criminals.
15:13
They do not believe in it (The Qur’an), and indeed the example of the former people has already passed.
Meaning:-
Former: existing before, preceding in time; prior or earlier
15:14
And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,
Meaning:-
Ascend: to rise to a higher point, rank, or degree; proceed from an inferior to a superior degree or level.
15:15
Even then they would say, “Our sights have been hypnotised – in fact, a magic spell has been cast upon us.”
Meaning:-
Hypnotised: to dazzle or overcome by, capture the whole attention of (someone); fascinate.
15:16
And We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers.
15:17
And We have guarded it (near heaven) from every outcast Shaitan (devil).
15:18
Except one (devil) who comes to eavesdrop – therefore a bright flame goes after him.
Meaning:-
Eavesdrop: secretly listen to a conversation.
15:19
We have spread out the earth and set mountains upon it; and caused to grow every suitable thing therein,
15:20
and We provided therein means of sustenance for you and many other creatures to whom you do not provide.
Meaning:-
Sustenance: food and drink regarded as a source of strength; nourishment.
15:21
There is not any means ˹of sustenance˺ whose reserves We do not hold, only bringing it forth in appropriate measure.
Meaning:-
Sustenance: food or drink which a person, animal, or plant needs to remain alive and healthy.
15:22
We send the fertilizing winds and send down water from the sky for you to drink; it is not you who hold the storage of this wealth.
15:23
Certainly it is We Who give life and cause to die, and We are the inheritors of all.
15:24
And indeed, We know the first generations of you who had passed away, and indeed, We know the present generations of you (mankind), and also those who will come afterwards.
15:25
Surely your Lord will gather them together; surely He is Wise, Knowledgeable.
15:26
We created man from sounding clay, black mud moulded into shape;
15:27
while before him We had created Jinn from smokeless fire.
15:28
Remember when your Lord said to the angels: “I am about to create a man from sounding clay, black mud moulded into shape;
15:29
“So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him.”
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
15:30
So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together.
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
15:31
Except Iblis (Satan), – he refused to be among the prostrators.
Meaning:-
Prostrator: A person who prostrates (Prostrate means: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.)
15:32
(Allah) said: “O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?”
Meaning:-
Prostrator: A person who prostrates (Prostrate means: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.)
15:33
[Iblis (Satan)] said: “I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud.”
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
15:34
[ Allah ] said, “Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled.
Expel: force (someone) to leave a place.
15:35
The curse will remain on you till the Day of Judgement.”
15:36
At this Iblees requested: “Lord! Give me respite till the Day of Resurrection.”
Meaning:-
Respite: a period of temporary delay, postpone.
15:37
Allah said: “All right! You are given the respite
Meaning:-
Respite: a period of temporary delay, postpone.
15:38
till the Day of appointed time.”
15:39
[Iblees] said, “My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all
15:40
except those of them who are Your sincere devotees.”
Meaning:-
Devotee: a strong believer in a particular religion or god, follower, supporter, disciple.
15:41
(Allah) said: “This (Way of My sincere servants) is indeed a Way that leads straight to Me.
15:42
– you will not have any authority over My devotees except those misguided ones who follow you.
Meaning:-
Devotee: a strong believer in a particular religion or god, follower, supporter, disciple.
15:43
And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.
15:44
“It (Hell) has seven gates, for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned.
15:45
Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in the midst of gardens and fountains:
15:46
and it will be said to them: “Enter into these in peace and security.”
15:47
We will remove whatever bitterness they had in their hearts. In a friendly manner, they will be on thrones, facing one another.
Meaning:-
bitterness: anger and disappointment at being treated unfairly; resentment.
15:48
No fatigue will touch them in there, not will they ever be asked to leave.
Meaning:-
Fatigue: extreme tiredness, typically resulting from mental or physical exertion or illness.
15:49
[O Muhammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful.
15:50
but at the same time My punishment is also the most painful punishment.
15:51
And tell them about the guests (the angels) of Ibrahim (Abraham).
15:52
They entered (angels) upon them and said: “Peace be upon you!” But he replied: “Surely we are afraid of you.”
15:53
They answered: “Do not be afraid of us! We have come to you with good news of [the birth of] a son who will be endowed with deep knowledge.”
Meaning:-
Endow: provide with a quality, desirable ability, characteristic.
15:54
He said: “Are you giving me the good news of a son when I have become old? What kind of good news you are giving?”
15:55
They replied: “We are giving you true good news; you should not be of those who despair.”
Meaning:-
Despair: the complete loss or absence of hope.
15:56
He said: “Who would despair of the mercy of his Lord except one who goes astray?”
Meaning:-
Despair: the complete loss or absence of hope.
Astray: into error, away from the correct path or direction
15:57
[Abraham] said, “What is your mission, O messenger-angels?”
Meaning:-
Mission: a task that is assigned.
15:58
They replied: “We have been sent to punish a criminal nation,
15:59
“(All) except the family of Lout (Lot). Them all we are surely going to save (from destruction).
15:60
“Except his wife, of whom We have decreed that she shall be of those who remain behind (i.e. she will be destroyed).”
15:61
Then, when the Messengers (the angels) came unto the family of Lout (Lot).
15:62
he said, ‘Surely you are a people unknown to me!’
15:63
They replied, “We have come to you about the matter which the (unbelievers) have rejected.
15:64
“And we have brought to you the truth (the news of the destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth.
15:65
“So leave with your family late in the night, and follow ˹closely˺ behind them. Do not let any of you look back, and go where you will be commanded.”
15:66
And We informed him the decision of this command, that at morning the root of the disbelievers would be destroyed.
15:67
The people of the town came rejoicing to the house of Lut when they heard the news of those two young male visitors.
15:68
[Lot] said, “Indeed, these are my guests, so do not disgrace me.
Meaning:-
disgrace: Loss of honor, respect, or reputation; shame.
15:69
“And fear Allah and disgrace me not.”
Meaning:-
disgrace: Loss of honor, respect, or reputation; shame.
15:70
They said, “Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?”
Meaning:-
Forbidden: not allowed; banned.
15:71
[Lot] said, “These are my daughters – if you would be doers [of lawful marriage].”
Meaning:-
Doer: One who does something, Performer, perpetrator, executor, accomplisher.
15:72
By your life, O Prophet Muhammad, they were madly blundering in their intoxication of lust!
Meaning:-
Lust: be consumed with desire for or sexual desire.
15:73
So the mighty blast overtook them at sunrise.
15:74
Thus We turned the town upside down and rained down on them brimstones of baked clay.
15:75
Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah).
15:76
And these (the traces of those destroyed towns) lie on a road that still exists (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now).
15:77
Indeed there is a sign in this for the true believers
15:78
The people of Al-Aikah (the nation of Prophet Shu’aib) were also wrongdoers.
Meaning:-
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
15:79
Therefore We inflicted punishment on them; and (the ruins of) both their cities (-the city of Sodomites and the city of Aikah) lie indeed on the open highway (traversed by the caravans from Hijâz to Syria).
Meaning:-
Inflict: cause (something unpleasant or painful) to be suffered by someone or something.
Ruin: destroy.
15:80
The Companions of the Rocky Tract also rejected the messengers;
Meaning:-
Rocky Tract: “The Rocky Tract” is undoubtedly a geographical name. On the maps of Arabia will be found a tract called the Hijr, north of Medinah, Jabal Hijr is about 150 miles north of Madinah. The tract would fall on the highway to Syria. This was the country of the Thamud. For them and the country see vii. 73, n. 1043.
15:81
We gave them Our signs, but they ignored them.
15:82
They carved their homes in the mountains, feeling secure
Meaning:-
Carved: to make something by cutting into esp. wood or stone, or to cut into the surface of stone, wood, etc.
15:83
But the mighty blast seized them one morning.
15:84
And all their labor of building their homes through carving the rocks did not avail them
Meaning:-
carving: a powerful desire for something, to cut into the surface of stone, wood, etc.
Avail: use or take advantage of (an opportunity or available resource), benefit.
15:85
We have not created the Heavens and the Earth, and all that lies between them but to manifest the Truth.The Hour of Doom is sure to come, so [Prophet] bear with them graciously.
Meaning:-
Manifest: to make clear or obvious to the eye or mind or the understanding; show plainly
Doom: death, destruction, or some other terrible fate.
Graciously: in a courteous, kind, and pleasant manner.
15:86
Surely your Lord is the Creator of all things, the Knowing.
15:87
We have given you the Seven Verses that are worthy of recitation over and over again (Surah Al-Fatiha) and the Glorious Qur’an.
15:88
Do not look at the worldly wealth which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers, nor grieve over (this destruction of) them and be kind and gentle to the believers,
Meaning:-
Grieve: to feel pain or sadness as a result of a loss, or to cause pain or stress to someone.
destruction: damage so bad, the action or process of causing so much damage to something that it no longer exists or cannot be repaired.
15:89
and tell the unbelievers: “Surely I am only a plain Warner.”
15:90
˹a warning˺ similar to what We sent to those who divided ˹the Scriptures˺,
15:91
the one who divided their Qur’an into separate parts, believing in some and denying others.
15:92
So by your Lord, We will surely question them all
15:93
about their doings.
15:94
(O Prophet), proclaim what you are commanded, and turn away from those who join false gods with Allah.
Meaning:-
Proclaim: to declare publicly, announce officially or publicly.
15:95
Indeed, We are enough for you against all those who ridicule your message,
Meaning:-
Ridicule: to laugh at someone or something in an unkind way, to make fun of.
15:96
Those who set up ˹other˺ gods with Allah. They will soon come to know.
15:97
And We know, indeed, that your heart is distressed because of (polytheistic things) that they say,
Meaning:-
Distressed: suffering from anxiety, sorrow, or pain.
Polytheistic: belief in more than one god or in many gods.
15:98
The cure of your heart’s distress is that you should celebrate the praises of your Lord and be of those who prostrate themselves before Him,
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
15:99
And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death).
16:1
The command of Allâh (regarding the punishment to the disbelievers) has come, therefore do not desire to hasten it; glory be to Him, and highly exalted be He above what they associate ˹with Him in worship˺!
Meaning:-
Exalted: placed at a high or powerful level; held in high regard.
Hasten: hurry, quicken, rush.
16:2
He sends down His angels with inspiration of His Command to whom He pleases of His servants, saying: “Warn the people that there is no one else worthy of worship except Me, therefore fear Me.”
16:3
He has created the heavens and the earth with truth. High be He Exalted above all they associate as partners with Him.
Meaning:-
Exalted: placed at a high or powerful level; held in high regard.
16:4
He created humans from a sperm-drop, then at once, this same (man) becomes an open opponent.
16:5
And He created the cattle for you; you have in them warm clothing and (many) benefits, and of them do you eat.
16:6
How pleasant they look to you when you bring them home in the evening and drive them to pasture in the morning.
Meaning:-
Pasture: an area covered with grass or other plants used or suitable for the grazing of livestock; grassland.
16:7
They carry your heavy loads to far-off towns that you could not otherwise reach without painful toil; indeed your Lord is Kind and Merciful.
Meaning:-
Toil: work extremely hard or incessantly.
16:8
He has also created horses, mules, and donkeys for you to ride and put on show, and He has created other things which are beyond your knowledge.
Meaning:-
Mules: the offspring of a donkey and a horse (strictly, a male donkey and a female horse), typically sterile and used as a beast of burden.
16:9
It is upon Allah ˹alone˺ to ˹clearly˺ show the Straight Way, for some paths lead the wrong way: if He wished, He could guide you all.
16:10
He it is Who sends down water (rain) from the sky; from it you drink and from it (grows) the vegetation on which you send your cattle to graze;
Meaning:-
Graze: (of cattle, sheep, etc.) eat grass in a field.
16:11
He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and from all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.
16:12
He has subjected to your service the night and the day, the sun and the moon: and likewise the stars also serve you by His command: surely there are signs in this for people who use their common sense.
16:13
And whatsoever He has created for you on this earth of varying colours [and qualities from vegetation and fruits, etc. (botanical life) and from animal (zoological life)]. Verily! In this is a sign for people who remember.
Meaning:-
Botanical: relating to plants.
16:14
It is He Who has subjected the sea to your service, that you may eat fresh meat therefrom and that you may bring out of it (precious and beautiful things of) ornaments to wear; and you see that ships plough their course through it. He has done all this so that you may seek His bounty and so that you may pay thanks to Him.
Meaning:-
Bounty: generosity; liberality, a monetary gift or reward.
Ornaments: a useful accessory.
Plough: To move or clear, a device for steering a ship
16:15
He has set mountains on the earth – lest it should move away with you. He also made rivers and roads so that you may find your way;
16:16
And landmarks (signposts, etc. during the day) and by the stars (during the night), they (mankind) guide themselves.
16:17
Is then, He, Who has created all this, like one who cannot create? Why don’t you understand?
16:18
If you want to count the favors of Allah, you will never be able to number them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful,
16:19
and Allah knows what you conceal and what you reveal.
Meaning:-
Conceal: to hide, to keep secret, to prevent or avoid disclosing, keep secret.
Reveal: to make known; disclose; divulge.
16:20
But those ˹idols˺ they invoke besides Allah cannot create anything—they themselves are created.
Meaning:-
Idols: an image or representation of a god used as an object of worship.
Invoke: call on (a deity or spirit) in prayer, as a witness, or for inspiration.
16:21
They are dead, not alive—not even knowing when their followers will be resurrected.
Meaning:-
Resurrected: to raise from the dead; bring to life again.
16:22
Your Allah is one Allah; so (as for) those who do not believe in the hereafter, their hearts are in Denial, and they are too proud.
Meaning:-
Denial: a refusal to accept, a refusal to believe.
16:23
Allah surely knows what they conceal and what they reveal; certainly He does not love the arrogant.
Meaning:-
Arrogant: a sense of superiority, self-importance, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
Conceal: to hide, to keep secret, to prevent or avoid disclosing, keep secret.
Reveal: to make known; disclose; divulge.
16:24
When they are asked: “What is it, that your Lord has revealed?” They say: “Fictitious stories of the ancients!”
Meaning:-
Revealed: to make known; disclose; divulge.
Fictitious: not real or true, being imaginary or having been fabricated.
16:25
That they may bear their own burdens in full on the Day of Resurrection and some of the burdens of those whom they misguide without knowledge. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear.
Meaning:-
Resurrection: The rising again to life of all the human dead before the final judgment.
16:26
Indeed, those before them had plotted against the Truth,, but Allah struck at the ˹very˺ foundation of their structure, so the roof collapsed on top of them, and the torment came upon them from where they did not expect.
Meaning:-
struck: hit forcibly.
Torment: torture, pain, severe physical or mental suffering, to afflict with great bodily.
16:27
Then on the Day of Judgment He will humiliate them and say: “Where are those deities you associated with Me concerning whom you used to dispute with the true believers?” Those who have been given knowledge will say: “Today there will be shame and sorrow for the unbelievers,”
Meaning:-
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
16:28
The ones whom the angels take in death [while] wronging themselves, and [who] then offer submission, [saying], “We were not doing any evil.” But, yes! Indeed, Allah is Knowing of what you used to do.
16:29
Now go ahead and enter the gates of Hell, to stay there forever. Indeed, what an evil home for the arrogant!”
Meaning:-
Arrogant: unpleasantly proud, a sense of superiority, self-importance.
16:30
And it will be said to those who fear Allah (the righteous), “What is it that your Lord has revealed (sent down)?” They will say, “All that is good.” For those who do good, there is good in this world; but certainly the home of the Hereafter is better; and surely excellent is the home of the righteous (or those who fear).
16:31
– Gardens of Eden will they enter, beneath which rivers flow, having therein all that they wish to have. Thus shall Allah reward the righteous,
Meaning:-
Beneath: below; in or to a lower place, position, underneath
16:32
The ones whom the angels take in death, [being] good and pure; [the angels] will say, “Peace be upon you. Enter Paradise for what you used to do.”
16:33
Are these unbelievers waiting for the angels to come down to take their lives or the commandment of your Lord to come to pass for their doom? So did those who went before them. It was not Allah who was unjust to them, but they were unjust to themselves.
Meaning:-
Doom: death, destruction, or some other terrible fate.
16:34
At the end, the evil results of their deeds overtook them, and they were surrounded by the very thing they had mocked.
Meaning:-
Mock: is to make fun of, ridicule.
16:35
The polytheists argue, “Had Allah willed, neither we nor our forefathers would have worshipped anything other than Him, nor prohibited anything without His command.” So did those before them. Is not the messengers’ duty only to deliver ˹the message˺ clearly?
Meaning:-
Polytheists: belief in more than one god or in many gods.
16:36
And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying],’Worship Allah and avoid the idols‘.” But some of them were guided by Allah, and some were justly disposed to error. So travel through the land (earth) and observe how was the end of the deniers.
Meaning:-
Idols: an image or representation of a god used as an object of worship.
16:37
[Even] if you should strive for their guidance, [O Muhammad], indeed, Allah does not guide those He sends astray, and they will have no helpers.
Meaning:-
Strive: make great efforts, struggle.
Astray: into error, away from the correct path or direction
16:38
And they swear by Allah their strongest oaths [that] Allah will never raise the dead to life. But yes – [it is] a true promise [binding] upon Him, but most of the people do not know.
16:39
˹He will do that˺ to make clear to them what they disagreed on, and for the disbelievers to know that they were liars.
16:40
As for its possibility, when We intend to do anything which We want, We need only say, “Be,” and it is.
16:41
And those who emigrated for [the cause of] Allah after they had been wronged – We will surely settle them in this world in a good place; but the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if only they could know.
16:42
(They are) those who remained patient (in this world for Allah’s sake), and put their trust in their Lord (Allah Alone).
16:43
We did not send ˹messengers˺ before you ˹O Prophet˺ except mere men inspired by Us. If you ˹polytheists˺ do not know ˹this already˺, then ask those who have knowledge ˹of the Scriptures˺.
Meaning:-
Mere: pure and simple.
Polytheists: The worship of or belief in more than one god, belief in many gods.
16:44
With clear signs and Books (We sent the Messengers). And We have also sent down unto you (O Muhammad) the reminder and the advice (the Quran), that you may explain clearly to mankind what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought.
16:45
Then, do those who have planned evil deeds feel secure that Allah will not cause the earth to swallow them or that the punishment will not come upon them from where they do not perceive?
Meaning:-
Perceive: become aware or conscious of (something); come to realize or understand.
16:46
Or that He may not seize them in the course of their journey leaving no way for their escape?
16:47
Or that He may catch them with gradual wasting (of their wealth and health). Truly! Your Lord is indeed full of Kindness, Most Merciful?
16:48
Do they not see how every object that Allah has created casts its shadow right and left, prostrating itself to Allah in all humility?
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
16:49
To Allah prostrate all the creatures of the heavens and the earth, including the angels; and they are not arrogant:
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
Arrogant: a sense of superiority, self-importance, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
16:50
They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.
16:51
Allah has commanded: “You shall not worship two gods: there exists only One God, I am the One Whom you should fear.”
16:52
And to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him is [due] worship constantly. Then is it other than Allah that you fear?
16:53
Whatever blessings and good things you have are from Allah. Then whenever hardship touches you, to Him ˹alone˺ you cry ˹for help˺.
Meaning:-
Hardship: adversity, or something difficult situation, suffering.
16:54
Then as soon as He removes the hardship from you, a group of you associates ˹others˺ with their Lord (Allah) ˹in worship˺,

So (as a result of that ) they deny (with ungratefulness) that (Allah’s Favours) which We have bestowed on them! Then enjoy yourselves (your short stay), but you will come to know (with regrets).

16:56
And they ˹even˺ assign to those ˹idols˺—who know nothing—a share of what We have provided for them. By Allah! You will certainly be questioned about whatever ˹lies˺ you used to fabricate ˹against Allah˺.
Meaning:-
Idols: an image or representation of a god used as an object of worship.
Fabricate: falsify, make, to fake, create, invent or concoct (something), typically with deceitful intent.
16:57
And they attribute ˹angels as˺ daughters to Allah—glory be to Him!—and the [sons] they desire to themselves.
Meaning:-
Explanation: Some of the Pagan Arabs called angels the daughters of Allah. In their own life they hated to have daughters, as explained in the next two verses. They practised female infanticide. In their state of perpetual war sons were a source of strength to them; daughters only made them subject to humiliating raids!
16:58
And when one of them is informed of [the birth of] a female, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief.
16:59
He hides himself from his people because of the bad news he has received. Should he keep her in disgrace, or bury her ˹alive˺ in the ground? Evil indeed is their judgment!
Meaning:-
Disgrace: bring shame, often implies humiliation.
Bury: to put in the ground and cover with earth.
16:60
Those who do not believe in the hereafter set an evil example, while Allah applies the highest example, for He is the Mighty, the Wise.
16:61
If Allah were to punish people ˹immediately˺ for their wrongdoing, He would not leave on it (the earth) a single moving (living) creature, but He delays them for an appointed term and when their term comes, they cannot delay it for a moment, nor can they bring (it) on (before its time).
16:62
And they attribute to Allah that which they dislike, and their tongues assert the lie that they will have a good reward. Let there be no doubt: the only thing they will have is hell, and they will be sent ahead of the others.
16:63
By Allah! We sent messengers before you (O Muhammad) to other nations; but shaitan made their deeds seem fair to them so they did not believe, he is their patron today, and they shall have a painful punishment.
16:64
We have revealed to you the Book (The Qur’an) so that you may clearly explain to them the reality of those things in which they differ – it is a guidance and blessing for those people who believe.
16:65
Allah sends down water from the sky, and with it gives life to the land after it has been dead (this Qur’an is being sent to serve the same purpose). Surely in this example there is a sign for those who listen.
16:66
Surely there is a lesson for you in cattle. We give you to drink of what is in their bellies, between bowels and blood – pure milk – pleasant for those who drink it.
16:67
And from the fruits of date-palms and grapes, you derive strong drink (this was before the order of the prohibition of the alcoholic drinks) and a goodly provision. Verily, therein is indeed a sign for people who have wisdom.
16:68
Behold! Your Lord inspired the bees to build their hives in the mountains, in the trees, and in anything which men may build for beekeeping,
Meaning:
Hives: Hives is an allergic skin reaction causing localized redness, swelling, and itching.
Beekeeping: the occupation of owning and breeding bees for their honey.
16:69
and feed on every kind of fruit and follow the smooth ways of your Lord. From its belly comes forth a syrup of different colors, which contains a healing for mankind. Certainly in this there is a sign for those who think.
16:70
Allah is the One Who created you, then He causes you to die; there are some amongst you whose lives are prolonged to an abject old age so that they know nothing after having known much. In fact Allah is the All-Knowing , Almighty.
Meaning:-
Abject: utterly hopeless, miserable, humiliating, or wretched
16:71
And Allah has preferred some of you above others in wealth and properties. Then, those who are preferred will by no means hand over their wealth and properties to those (slaves) whom their right hands possess, so that they may be equal with them in respect thereof. Do they then deny the Favour of Allah?
16:72
And Allah has made for you wives of your own kind, and has made for you, from your wives, sons and grandsons, and has bestowed on you good provision. Do they then believe in false deities and deny the Favour of Allah (by not worshipping Allah Alone).
Meaning:-
Bestow: an honor, right, or gift.
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
16:73
They worship those deities other than Allah, who neither provide them anything for sustenance from the heavens or the earth, nor have any power to do so?
Meaning:-
Deities: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
Sustenance: food and drink regarded as a source of strength; nourishment.
16:74
Therefore, compare none with Allah. Surely Allah knows and you do not know.
16:75
Allah puts forward the example (of two men a believer and a disbeliever); a slave (disbeliever) under the possession of another, he has no power of any sort, and (the other), a man (believer) on whom We have bestowed a good provision from Us, and He spends thereof secretly and openly. Can they be equal? (By no means, not). All the praises and thanks be to Allah. Nay! (But) most of them know not.
Meaning:-
possession: taking into control.
Bestow: an honor, right, or gift
16:76
And Allah puts forward (another) example of two men, one of them dumb, who has no power over anything (disbeliever), and he is a burden to his master, whichever way he directs him, he brings no good. Is such a man equal to one (believer in the Islamic Monotheism) who commands justice, and is himself on a Straight Path?
Meaning:-
Path: a way, a course of action, conduct, or procedure.
Monotheism: the doctrine or belief that there is only one God.
16:77
Allah Alone has knowledge of the unseen things of the Heavens and the Earth. As for the taking place of the Hour of Judgment, it will be like a twinkling of an eye or even quicker: surely Allah has power over everything.
16:78
Allah brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers when you knew nothing, and He gave you hearing, sight and intelligence so that you may give thanks to Him.
16:79
Do they not see the birds held (flying) in the midst of the sky? None holds them but Allah [none gave them the ability to fly but Allah]. Verily, in this are clear proofs and signs for people who believe (in the Oneness of Allah).
16:80
It is Allah who has made your homes as a place of rest for you and He made for you tents out of the skins of the cattle so that you may find them light when you travel and easy to pitch when you stop; and out of their wool and their soft fibers (between wool and hair) and their hair rich stuff (household items) and articles of convenience (to serve you) for a time.
16:81
Allah has provided you shades from the sun out of what He has created, and has given you shelter in the mountains. He has also provided you with clothes protecting you from the heat ˹and cold˺, and armour shielding you in battle. This is how He perfects His favour upon you, so perhaps you will ˹fully˺ submit ˹to Him˺.
Meaning:-
Armour: the metal coverings formerly worn by soldiers or warriors to protect the body in battle.
16:82
Then, if they turn away, your duty ˹O Prophet˺ is only to deliver ˹the message˺ in a clear way.
16:83
They recognize the favors of Allah, yet they deny them; most of them are ˹truly˺ ungrateful disbelievers.
16:84
Do they realize what will happen on that Day when We shall call a witness from every nation? Then the unbelievers will neither be allowed to put forward any excuse nor will they receive any favor.
16:85
When the wrongdoers face the punishment, it will neither be lightened for them nor will they be granted a delay.
Meaning:-
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
16:86
And when those who associated others with Allah see their “partners,” they will say,” Our Lord, these are our partners [to You] whom we used to invoke besides You.” But they will throw at them the statement, “Indeed, you are liars.”
16:87
On that Day they will offer their submission and all that they had fabricated (false deities) will have vanished.
Meaning:-
Deities: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
16:88
Those who disbelieved and hinder ˹others˺ from the Way of Allah, for them We will add more punishment to their punishment; because they used to spread corruption [by disobeying Allah themselves, as well as ordering others (mankind) to do so].
Meaning:-
Hinder: to block or put something in the way of.
16:89
O Muhammad, warn them about that Day when We shall call a witness from every nation to testify against it, and We shall call you O Muhammad to testify against your people: that is why We have sent down to you this Book (The Qur’an) to explain everything – a guide, a blessing and good news for Muslims.
16:90
Allah commands doing justice, doing good to others, and giving to near relatives, and He forbids indecency, wickedness, and rebellion: He admonishes you so that you may take heed.
Meaning:-
Wickedness: the quality of being evil or morally wrong.
Rebellion: an act of violent. disobedience.
Admonish: to caution, advise, or counsel against something.
Heed: pay careful attention to it.
4:1
O mankind! Have fear of your Lord, the One who created you from a single soul, from that soul He created its mate, and through them He spread countless men and women. Fear Allah, the One in whose name you demand your rights from one another and the ties of relationship; surely Allah is watching you very closely.
Meaning:-
Mate: A husband or wife, A sexual partner.
4:2
Give orphans the property which belongs to them when they are able to handle it themselves and do not substitute your worthless things for their valuable ones; and do not cheat them of their possession through mixing it up with your own. For this would indeed be a great sin.
4:3
And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].
4:4
At the time of marriage, give the women their dowries willingly as an obligation; but if they, by their own free will, give up to you a portion of it then you may enjoy it with pleasure.
4:5
Do not entrust your property which Allah has made a means of support for your family, to feebleminded people for investment in business, however, provide such people with food and clothing and speak to them nicely and give them good advice.
Meaning:-
Feebleminded: (of a person) unable to make intelligent decisions or judgments.
4:6
Observe the orphans through testing their abilities until they reach the age of marriage, then if you find them capable of sound judgment, hand over to them their property; and do not consume it wastefully in haste lest they grow up to demand it. If the guardian is well-off, he should not take compensation from the orphan’s property, but if he is poor let him take a just and reasonable remuneration. When you hand over their property to them, call in some witnesses; even though Allah is sufficient in taking the accountability.
4:7
Men will have a share in what their parents and their near relatives leave; and women will have a share in what their parents and their near relatives leave: whether it be a little or much, they shall be legally entitled to their shares.
4:8
And when [other] relatives and orphans and the needy are present at the [time of] division, then provide for them [something] out of the estate and speak to them words of appropriate kindness.
4:9
Let those (disposing of an estate) have the same fear in their minds as they would have for their own if they were to leave a helpless family behind: they should, therefore, fear Allah and speak for justice.
4:10
In fact, those who misappropriate the property of orphans unjustly, swallow but fire into their bellies; they will soon be cast into the blazing fire!
Meaning:-
Blazing: burn fiercely or brightly.
4:11
Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females. But if there are [only] daughters, two or more, for them is two thirds of one’s estate. And if there is only one, for her is half. And for one’s parents, to each one of them is a sixth of his estate if he left children. But if he had no children and the parents [alone] inherit from him, then for his mother is one third. And if he had brothers [or sisters], for his mother is a sixth, after any bequest he [may have] made or debt. Your parents or your children – you know not which of them are nearest to you in benefit. [These shares are] an obligation [imposed] by Allah . Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.
Meaning:-
Bequest: a legacy (legacy means: an amount of money or property left to someone in a will )
4:12
And for you is half of what your wives leave if they have no child. But if they have a child, for you is one fourth of what they leave, after any bequest they [may have] made or debt. And for the wives is one fourth if you leave no child. But if you leave a child, then for them is an eighth of what you leave, after any bequest you [may have] made or debt. And if a man or woman leaves neither ascendants nor descendants but has a brother or a sister, then for each one of them is a sixth. But if they are more than two, they share a third, after any bequest which was made or debt, as long as there is no detriment [caused]. [This is] an ordinance from Allah , and Allah is Knowing and Forbearing.
Meaning:-
Bequest: a legacy (legacy means: an amount of money or property left to someone in a will )
4:13
These are the limits set by Allah: those who obey Allah and His Messenger will be admitted to paradise, in which rivers flow, to live therein forever, and that is the Great Achievement.
4:14
But the ones who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress His limits will be cast to Hellfire to live therein forever, and they shall have a humiliating punishment.
Meaning:-
Transgress: to violate a law, command, moral code, etc.; offend; sin.
4:15
If any of your women are guilty of fornication, ask for four reliable witnesses from among yourselves against them; and if they testify and their guilt is proved, confine them to their houses until they die or Allah opens some other way out for them.
Meaning:-
fornication: Sexual intercourse between people not married to each other.
Confine: the borders or boundaries of a place, especially with regard to their restricting freedom of movement.
4:16
And the two, whether married or unmarried, who are guilty of this offense, punish them both. If they repent and mend their ways, leave them alone. Surely Allah is the Acceptor of Repentance, Merciful.
Meaning:-
Mend: repair (something that is broken or damaged), fix.
4:17
Repentance with Allah (right to be forgiven by Allah) is only for those who do something evil in ignorance [or carelessness] and repent as soon as they realize it; Allah will pardon them. Allah is the Knowledgeable, Wise.
4:18
But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, “Indeed, I have repented now,” or of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.
4:19
O believers! It is not lawful for you consider women as a part of your inheritance and retain them against their will in order that you may force them to give up a part of the dowry you have given them, unless they are guilty of proven fornication. Treat them with kindness even if you dislike them; it is quite possible that you dislike something in which Allah has placed much good.
Meaning:-
Fornication: sexual intercourse between people not married to each other.
4:20
But if you want to replace one wife with another and you have given one of them a great amount [in gifts], do not take [back] from it anything. Would you take it in injustice and manifest sin?
Meaning:-
Manifest: to make clear or obvious to the eye or mind or the understanding; show plainly
4:21
And how could you take it back when you have enjoyed conjugal happiness and she had taken from you a firm pledge of marriage?
Meaning:-
Conjugal: relating to marriage or the relationship of a married couple.
Pledge: promise, undertaking, vow, word of honor, commitment, oath.
4:22
Do not marry those women whom your fathers had married, – except what happened prior to this commandment. – Surely it was shocking, disgusting, and an evil practice.
Meaning:-
Disgusting: extremely unpleasant or unacceptable, nasty.
4:23
Forbidden to you for marriage are: your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal aunts, your maternal aunts, daughters of your brothers, daughters of your sisters, your foster-mothers, your foster-sisters, the mothers of your wives, your stepdaughters under your guardianship from those wives with whom you have consummated your marriage, but there is no blame on you in marrying your stepdaughters if you have not consummated your marriage with their mothers, whom you have divorced, and the wives of your own real sons; and you are also forbidden to take in marriage two sisters at one and the same time except what happened prior to this commandment; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Meaning:-
Forbidden: not allowed; banned.
Foster-mother: a woman who takes the place of a mother in raising a child.
Foster-sister: a girl brought up with another child of different parents.
Consummate:make (a marriage or relationship) complete by having sexual intercourse.
4:24
Also forbidden for you are married women, except those who have fallen in your hands as prisoners of war. This is the order of Allah relating to marriage prohibitions. All women other than these are lawful provided you seek them in marriage with gifts from your property (dowry), desiring chastity and not lust. Give them their dowry as an obligation for the benefit you have received from your marriage relationship. However, there is no blame on you if you change the agreement of dowry with mutual consent. Allah is the Knowledgeable, Wise.
Meaning:-
Chastity: “morally pure,” and preserving your chastity means you are keeping your body pure and free from sexual.
Lust: very strong sexual desire, sexual appetite
4:25
If any of you cannot afford to marry a free believing woman, let him marry one of his own slave girls who is a believer; Allah knows how good you are in your faith. You all belong to one and the same community. Marry them with the permission of their family and give them their fair dowry so that they may live a decent life in wedlock and not live as prostitutes or look for secret illicit relationships. Then if after marriage they commit adultery, they shall be given half the punishment prescribed for a free adulteress. The concession of such a marriage is for those of you who fear that they might commit a sin if they do not get married, but it is better for you to practice self-restraint. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
4:26
Allah desires to clarify, and guides you to the ways which were followed by the righteous people before you, and turns to you in mercy. Allah is the Knowledgeable, Wise.
4:27
Allah wishes to forgive you, but those who follow their lusts, wish that you (believers) should deviate tremendously away from the Right Path.
Meaning:-
Lust: very strong sexual desire, sexual appetite
Deviate: a person whose sexual behavior departs from the norm in a way that isconsidered socially or morally unacceptable.
4:28
Allah wishes to lighten your burdens because humans have been created weak by nature.
4:29
O you who have believed, do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.
4:30
Anyone who commits such acts of aggression and injustice will soon be thrown into hellfire, and this is very easy for Allah to do.
Meaning:-
Aggression: hostile (hostile means: unfriendly, unkind, bitter) or violent behavior or attitudes toward another; readiness to attack or confront, a forceful action or procedure (such as an unprovoked attack) especially when intended to dominate or master.
4:31
If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sins and admit you to a noble entrance [into Paradise].
4:32
Do not envy that Allah has given some of you more than the others. Men will be rewarded according to their deeds and women will be rewarded according to theirs. Ask Allah for His grace. Surely Allah has perfect knowledge of everything.
Meaning:-
envy: jealousy, covetousness; resentment, bitterness, discontent
4:33
For every parent and relative We have appointed the rightful heirs to inherit what they leave. As for those with whom you have made firm agreements, give them their share. Surely Allah is a Witness to everything.
Meaning:-
Heir: a person legally entitled to the property or rank of another on that person’s death.
Inherit: receive (money, property, or a title) as an heir at the death of the previous holder.
4:34
Men are overseers (in charge) over women because Allah has given the one more strength than other, and because men are required to spend their wealth for the maintenance of women. Honorable women are, therefore, devoutly obedient and guard in the husband’s absence what Allah require them to guard their husband’s property and their own honor. As to those women from whom you fear disobedience, first admonish them, then refuse to share your bed with them, and then, if necessary, beat them. Then if they obey you, take no further actions against them and do not make excuses to punish them. Allah is Supremely Great and is aware of your actions.
Meaning:-
overseers: controller, supervisor; manager.
devoutly: in a very religious way.
admonish: to warn, to counsel, usually in a kind way.
4:35
If you fear a breach of marriage between a man and his wife, appoint one arbiter from his family and another from hers; if they wish to reconcile, Allah will create a way of reconciliation between them. Allah is the Knowledgeable, Aware.
4:36
Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful.
Meaning:-
self-deluding: the act of allowing yourself to believe something that is not true or a person who believes himself to be much smarter than he actually is.
Boast: brag, crow, swagger, swank, gloat.
4:37
Who are stingy and enjoin upon [other] people stinginess and conceal what Allah has given them of His bounty – and We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment –
Meaning:-
Stingy: miserly, niggardly, penny-pinching.
Conceal: to hide, to keep secret, to prevent or avoid disclosing, keep secret.
Bounty: generosity; liberality, a monetary gift or reward
4:38
Similarly, Allah does not like those who spend their wealth to show off to the people, believing neither in Allah nor in the Last Day. In fact the one who chooses Shaitan as his companion has chosen a very evil companion!
4:39
And what [harm would come] upon them if they believed in Allah and the Last Day and spent out of what Allah provided for them? And Allah is ever, about them, Knowing.
4:40
Allah does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom’s weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward.
Meaning:-
Atom: anything extremely small; a minute quantity.
4:41
So how [will it be] when We bring from every nation a witness and we bring you, [O Muhammad] against these [people] as a witness?
4:42
That Day, those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger will wish they could be covered by the earth. And they will not conceal from Allah a [single] statement.
Meaning:-
Conceal: to hide, to keep secret, to prevent or avoid disclosing, keep secret.
4:43
O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of janabah, except those passing through [a place of prayer], until you have washed [your whole body]. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands [with it]. Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving.
Meaning:-
Janabah: Junub is an Islamic term meaning ritually impure due to sexual intercourse or seminal discharge. A person in such a state needs to take a bath in order to become ritually pure and be able to perform his prayers. A person while in a state of janaba cannot offer his/her daily salat (prayer) or enter a mosque.
4:44
Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture, purchasing error [in exchange for it] and wishing you would lose the way?
4:45
Allah knows your enemies very well. Sufficient is Allah to protect you, and Sufficient is Allah to help you
4:46
Among the Jews there are some who take the words out of their context and utter them with a twist of their tongues to slander the true Deen (faith) and say: “We hear and we disobey;” and “Hear, may you (O Muhammad) hear nothing!” And “Ra’ina” (an ambiguous word meaning: “listen, may you become deaf,” or “our shepherd,” or “in judeo-Arabic language conveying the sense of “our evil one”). If only they had said: “We hear and we obey;” and “Hear us;” and “Unzurna (“look upon us,” or ” pay attention to us”): it would have been better for them and more proper. Due to all this Allah has cursed them for their unbelief. In fact with the exception of a few, they have no faith.
Meaning:-
Slander: the action or crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person’s reputation.
Ra’ina: The word Rai’na belongs to the measure of Mufa’alah which generally gives the send of reciprocity, denoting two parties standing almost on the same level, and may mean, “have regard for us that we may have regard for you.” Or being traced to the root Ra’in which means, a foolish or conceited fellow, the word signifies: ‘O fool’ or ‘O conceited fellow’. As this expression involved disrespect to the Holy Prophet, God forbids Muslims to use such words, and advises them to use language which is respectful and unequivocal, such as the word Unzurna meaning ‘wait for us’.
4:47
O people of the Book (Jews and Christians)! Believe in what We have now revealed (The Qur’an), confirming your own scriptures, before We obliterate your faces and turn them backward, or lay Our curse on you as We laid Our curse on the Sabbath-breakers: and remember that Allah’s command is always executed.
Meaning:-
Obliterate: destroy utterly; wipe out., erase, rub out
Sabbath: the seventh day of the week, Saturday, as the day of rest and religious observance among Jews and some Christians or any special day of prayer or rest resembling the Sabbath: Friday is the Muslim Sabbath.
4:48
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.
4:49
Have you not seen those who claim themselves to be pure? Rather, Allah purifies whom He wills, and injustice is not done to them, [even] as much as a thread [inside a date seed].
4:50
See how they invent a lie against Allah, and this in itself is enough to show their manifest sin.
Meaning:-
Manifest: to make clear or obvious to the eye or mind or the understanding; show plainly
4:51
Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Book? They believe in superstition and Taghut (forces of Shaitan) and say about the unbelievers that they are better guided to the Right Way than the believers!
4:52
Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed; and he whom Allah curses – never will you find for him a helper.
4:53
Do they have a share in the kingdom? If they had any share they would have not given other people equal to a speck on a date-stone.
Meaning:-
Speck: a tiny spot.
4:54
Or do they envy other people because Allah has given them from His grace? If so, let them know that We did give the Book and Wisdom to the descendants of Ibrahim (Abraham), and blessed them with a great kingdom.
Meaning:-
Envy: jealousy, bitterness, discontent;
4:55
But some of them believed in it and some turned away. Sufficient is hell to burn those who turned away.
4:56
Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses – We will drive them into a Fire. Every time their skins are roasted through We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted in Might and Wise.
4:57
But those who believe and do righteous deeds – We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide forever. For them therein are purified spouses, and We shall provide them with cool thick shade.
Meaning:-
Beneath: below; in or to a lower place, position, underneath
4:58
Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.
Meaning:-
Render: provide or give (a service, help, etc.).
4:59
O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.
4:60
Have you not seen those who claim that they believe in what has been revealed to you and other prophets before you? Yet they desire that the judgment (in their disputes) be made by Taghut (forces of Shaitan) though they were commanded to reject them, and Shaitan’s wish is to lead them far astray into deep error.
Meaning:-
astray:into error, away from the correct path or direction
4:61
When it is said to them: “Come to be judged by the messenger in accordance with what Allah has revealed, ” you see that the hypocrites show their utmost hesitation in coming to you.
Meaning:-
Hypocrite:a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs,principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially aperson whose actions belie stated beliefs.
4:62
So how [will it be] when disaster strikes them because of what their hands have put forth and then they come to you swearing by Allah , “We intended nothing but good conduct and accommodation.”
4:63
They (hypocrites) are those of whom Allah knows what is in their hearts; so turn aside from them (do not punish them) but admonish them, and speak to them an effective word (i.e. to believe in Allah, worship Him, obey Him, and be afraid of Him) to reach their innerselves.
Meaning:-
Hypocrite:a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
Admonish: to caution, advise, or counsel against something.
4:64
We did not send any messenger but to be obeyed by Allah’s leave. If they would have come to you when they had wronged themselves to seek Allah’s forgiveness and if the messenger had also asked Allah’s forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah Forgiving, Merciful.
4:65
But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission.
4:66
If We had commanded them to sacrifice their lives or to leave their homes, very few of them would have done it. Yet, if they would have done what they were commanded to do, it would have been better for them; not only would their faith have been strengthened,
4:67
And then We would have given them from Us a great reward.
4:68
And We would have guided them to a straight path.
Meaning:-
Path: a way, a course of action, conduct, or procedure:
4:69
Whosoever obeys Allah and the Messenger will be in the company of those whom Allah has blessed – the Prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous: What excellent companions they will be!
Meaning:-
Martyrs: a person who is killed because of their religious or other beliefs
4:70
This is the real grace from Allah and sufficient is Allah’s infinite knowledge.
Meaning:-
Infinite: limitless or endless in space, extent, or size; impossible to measure or calculate.
4:71
O believers! Prepare yourselves for encounter, then advance in detachments or all together as the occasion may require..
Meaning:-
Detachment: as from worldly affairs or from the concerns of others.
4:72
And indeed, there is among you he who lingers behind; and if disaster strikes you, he says, ” Allah has favored me in that I was not present with them.”
Meaning:-
Linger: to remain alive; continue or persist, although gradually dying, ceasing,disappearing, etc.:
4:73
But if bounty comes to you from Allah , he will surely say, as if there had never been between you and him any affection. “Oh, I wish I had been with them so I could have attained a great attainment.”
Meaning:-
Bounty: generosity; liberality, a monetary gift or reward.
4:74
So let those fight in the cause of Allah who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter. And he who fights in the cause of Allah and is killed or achieves victory – We will bestow upon him a great reward.
4:75
And what reason do you have not to fight in the cause of Allah, to rescue the helpless oppressed old men, women, and children who are crying: “Our Lord! Deliver us from this town whose people are oppressors; send us a protector by Your grace and send us a helper from Your presence?”
Meaning:-
Oppress: keep (someone) in subservience and hardship, especially by the unjust exercise of authority.
4:76
Those who are believers fight in the cause of Allah and those who are unbelievers fight in the cause of Taghut (forces of Shaitan): so fight against the helpers of Shaitan; surely, Shaitan’s crafty schemes are very weak.
Meaning:-
Crafty: clever at achieving one’s aims by indirect or deceitful methods.
4:77
Have you not seen those who were told, “Restrain your hands [from fighting] and establish prayer and give zakah ( charity) “? But then when fighting was ordained for them, at once a party of them feared men as they fear Allah or with [even] greater fear. They said, “Our Lord, why have You decreed upon us fighting? If only You had postponed [it for] us for a short time.” Say, The enjoyment of this world is little, and the Hereafter is better for he who fears Allah . And injustice will not be done to you, [even] as much as a thread [inside a date seed].”
Meaning:-
Restrain: prevent (someone or something) from doing something; keep under control or within limits.
4:78
Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction. But if good comes to them, they say, “This is from Allah “; and if evil befalls them, they say, “This is from you.” Say, “All [things] are from Allah .” So what is [the matter] with those people that they can hardly understand any statement?
Meaning:-
lofty: tall, high, giant, towering, skyscraping
4:79
What comes to you of good is from Allah , but what comes to you of evil, [O man], is from yourself. And We have sent you, [O Muhammad], to the people as a messenger, and sufficient is Allah as Witness.
4:80
He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah ; but those who turn away – We have not sent you over them as a guardian.
4:81
They will say: “We are at your service!” Yet when they leave you, some of them meet together secretly at night to plot against what you have said. Allah notes down all their plots. Therefore, leave them alone and put your trust in Allah. Allah is your all sufficient trustee.
4:82
Do they not then consider the Quran carefully? Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein many contradictions.
Meaning:-
Contradiction: A difference or disagreement between two things which means that both cannot be true. A combination of statements, ideas, or features of a situation that are opposed to one another.
4:83
Whenever they hear news of peace or of danger, they spread it quickly; but if they would report it to the Messenger and to the responsible people in the community, it would come to the knowledge of those who could draw the right conclusions. If it had not been for Allah’s grace and mercy, all of you with the exception of a few, would have followed Shaitan.
4:84
Therefore, O Muhammad, fight; in the path of Allah, you are accountable for no one except for yourself. Urge the believers to fight, it may be that Allah will overthrow the might of the unbelievers, for Allah is the strongest in might and severe in punishment.
4:85
Anyone who intercedes for a good cause shall have a share in it, and anyone who intercedes for an evil cause shall also get a share in its burden. Allah has control over everything.
Meaning:-
Intercede: to attempt to reconcile differences between two people or groups; mediate. 3rd person present: intercedes
4:86
And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet [in return] with one better than it or [at least] return it [in a like manner]. Indeed, Allah is ever, over all things, an Accountant.
4:87
Allah – there is no deity except Him. He will surely assemble you for [account on] the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt. And who is more truthful than Allah in statement.
Meaning:-
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
4:88
What is [the matter] with you [that you are] two groups concerning the hypocrites, while Allah has made them fall back [into error and disbelief] for what they earned. Do you wish to guide those whom Allah has sent astray? And he whom Allah sends astray – never will you find for him a way [of guidance].
Meaning:-
Astray: into error, away from the correct path or direction.
Hypocrite: a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess.
4:89
They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah . But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper.
Meaning:-
Ally: to associate or connect by some mutual relationship, as resemblance or friendship.
4:90
The exception to this is for those who take refuge with your allies or come over to you because their hearts restrain them both from fighting against you and from fighting against their own people. If Allah had wanted, He would have given them power over you and they might easily have fought against you; therefore, if they withdraw from you and cease their hostility and offer you peace, in that case Allah has not granted you permission to fight against them.
Meaning:-
Restrain: prevent, stop, keep, hold back; hinder, impede, hamper, restrict, constrain, obstruct;
Hostility fighting, conflict, armed conflict, combat, warfare, war, bloodshed, violence, action, military action, battles, strife.
4:91
You will find others who wish to obtain security from you and [to] obtain security from their people. Every time they are returned to [the influence of] disbelief, they fall back into it. So if they do not withdraw from you or offer you peace or restrain their hands, then seize them and kill them wherever you overtake them. And those – We have made for you against them a clear authorization.
4:92
And never is it for a believer to kill a believer except by mistake. And whoever kills a believer by mistake – then the freeing of a believing slave and a compensation payment presented to the deceased’s family [is required] unless they give [up their right as] charity. But if the deceased was from a people at war with you and he was a believer – then [only] the freeing of a believing slave; and if he was from a people with whom you have a treaty – then a compensation payment presented to his family and the freeing of a believing slave. And whoever does not find [one or cannot afford to buy one] – then [instead], a fast for two months consecutively, [seeking] acceptance of repentance from Allah . And Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.
4:93
But whoever kills a believer intentionally – his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and Allah has become angry with him and has cursed him and has prepared for him a great punishment.
Meaning:-
Abide: to remain; continue; stay
Eternally: without beginning or end; lasting forever
4:94
O believers! When you struggle (to fight) in the way of Allah, investigate carefully, and do not say to anyone who offers you a salutation: “You are not a believer” in order to seek worldly gain by this. Allah has abundant spoils for you. Remember that you yourselves were in the same condition before, Allah has conferred His favors on you. Therefore, make a thorough investigation before considering someone an unbeliever. Allah is well aware of all your actions.
Meaning:-
Abundant: existing or available in large quantities; plentiful.
salutation:a gesture or utterance made as a greeting
spoils: goods, advantages, profits, etc. that you get by your actions or because of your position or situation: The spoils of victory/war included mounds of treasure and Armour.
4:95
Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home), except those who are disabled (by injury or are blind or lame, etc.), and those who strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred in grades those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and their lives above those who sit (at home). Unto each, Allah has promised good (Paradise), but Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight, above those who sit (at home) by a huge reward;
4:96
Degrees [of high position] from Him and forgiveness and mercy. And Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.
4:97
When the angels of death cause those people to die who have wronged their souls, they ask: “What was your condition?” They reply: “We were oppressed in the earth.” The angels say: “Was not the earth of Allah spacious enough for you to emigrate and go somewhere else?” Hell will be their abode and it is a very evil refuge!
Meaning:-
oppress: persecute, abuse, maltreat, ill-treat, tyrannize, crush, repress, suppress, subjugate,
Abide: to remain; continue; stay
4:98
however, those helpless men, women and children who have neither the means to migrate nor strength to escape,
