Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], “Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment.”
Category: Chapters / Surah
71:2
He said: “O my People! I am sent towards you as a plain Warner.
71:3
[Saying], ‘Worship Allah , fear Him and obey me.
71:4
He will forgive you some of your faults and grant you a delay to an appointed term; surely the term of Allah when it comes is not postponed; did you but know!
71:5
He said, “My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day.
71:6
But my call has only made them flee the more:
71:7
And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their clothes, persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance.
Meaning:-
Persisted: to continue steadfastly. (steadfastly meaning: strongly and without stopping)
Arrogant: self-important, proud in an unpleasant, revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
71:8
Then surely I called to them aloud,
71:9
appealed them openly in public and secretly in private,
71:10
“I said (to them): ‘Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving;
71:11
He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers
71:12
And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.
71:13
What is the matter with you, [that you fear not Allah (His punishment), and] you hope not for reward (from Allah or you believe not in His Oneness).
71:14
While He has created you in stages?
71:15
Can you not see how Allah created the seven heavens one above the other,
71:16
And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp?
71:17
Allah has caused you to grow as a growth from the earth.
71:18
He will return you to the same earth and then raise you back to life again on the Day of Resurrection?
71:19
And Allah has made for you the earth wide spread (an expanse).
Meaning:-
Expanse: an area of something, typically land or sea, presenting a wide continuous surface.
71:20
That you may go about therein in broad roads.
71:21
Finally, Nuh (Noah) submitted: “O Lord! My people have disobeyed me, and followed those chiefs whose wealth and children have added to them nothing but loss.
71:22
“And they have plotted a mighty plot.
71:23
and said to each other: ‘Do not leave your gods; especially Wadd, Suwa, Yaghus, Yauq and Nasr (the names of their idols).’
71:24
And already they have misled many. And, [my Lord], do not increase the wrongdoers except in error.”
Meaning:-
wrongdoers: criminal, a person who behaves illegally, or dishonestly; an offender.
71:25
Because of their sins they were drowned and put into the Fire, and they found not for themselves besides Allah [any] helpers.
71:26
As Nuh had prayed: “O Lord! Do not leave a single unbeliever on the surface of the earth.
71:27
“If You leave them, they will mislead Your slaves, and they will beget none but wicked disbelievers.”
Meaning:-
Beget: To produce (children) by sexual reproduction.
Wicked: evil or morally bad in principle or practice; sinful; iniquitous:
71:28
My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction.”
Meaning:-
wrongdoers: criminal, a person who behaves illegally, or dishonestly; an offender.
