And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Meaning:-
Sacred Months: i.e. the 1st, the 7th, the 11th and the 12th months of the Islamic calendar).
Polytheists: belief in more than one god or in many gods
Besiege: surround (a place) with armed forces in order to capture it or force its surrender; lay siege to.
Ambush: those who attack suddenly and unexpectedly from a concealed position.
zakah (Arabic): Charity, a tax, comprising percentages of personal income of every kind, levied as almsgiving for the relief of the poor
