And those who disbelieved are allies of one another. If you do not do so, there will be fitnah on earth and great corruption.

Fitnah: ( Al-Fitnah is worse than killing.) Spreading Mischief, trying to force the Muslims to revert from their religion and re-embrace Kufr after they had believed, is worse with Allah than killing.

Those who believed (embraced Islam), migrated and made Jihad (exerted their utmost struggle) in the cause of Allah, and those who gave them asylum and help – they are the true believers. They shall have forgiveness and honorable provisions.

8:75
Those who believed (embraced Islam) afterwards, migrated and joined you in Jihad – they too are your brothers, although according to the Book of Allah the blood relatives have greater rights on one other. Indeed Allah knows everything.

[This is a declaration of] disassociation, from Allah and His Messenger, to those with whom you had made a treaty among the polytheists.

9:2
So travel freely, [O disbelievers], throughout the land [during] four months but know that you cannot cause failure to Allah and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers.

9:3
This is a public proclamation from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the Great Hajj (Pilgrimage) that Allah and His Messenger do hereby dissolve treaty obligations with the disbelievers. Therefore, if you repent, it will be better for you but if you turn away, then you should know that you cannot frustrate the Will of Allah. O Prophet, proclaim a painful punishment to those who are unbelievers.

9:4
Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him].

If anyone from the polytheists ask you for asylum, grant it to him so that he may hear the Word of Allah, and then escort him to his place of safety: this should be done because these people do not know the truth.

9:10
They do not pay regard to ties of relationship nor those of covenant in the case of a believer; and these are they who go beyond the limits.

But if they repent, perform prayer, and pay alms-tax (zakah,), then they are your brothers in faith. This is how We make the revelations clear for people of knowledge.

But if they violate their treaty once they have sworn it and insult your religion, then fight with the leaders of disbelief – for their oaths are nothing to them – so that they may be stopped.

9:13
Will you not fight those who have broken their oaths, conspired to expel the Messenger ˹from Mecca˺, and attacked you first? Do you fear them? Allah is more deserving of your fear, if you are ˹true˺ believers.

Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands and will disgrace them and give you victory over them and satisfy the breasts of a believing people

And remove the fury in the believers’ hearts. And Allah turns in forgiveness to whom He wills; and Allah is Knowing and Wise.

Do you ˹believers˺ think that you will be left without Allah proving who among you ˹truly˺ struggles ˹in His cause˺ and never takes trusted allies other than Allah, His Messenger, or the believers? And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

9:17
It is not for the polytheists to maintain the mosques of Allah [while] witnessing against themselves with disbelief. [For] those, their deeds have become worthless, and in the Fire they will abide eternally.

The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and establish prayer and give zakah and do not fear except Allah , for it is expected that those will be of the [rightly] guided.

Those who believe (embrace Islam), leave their homes (migrate), and make Jihad with their wealth and persons in the cause of Allah, have higher rank in the sight of Allah. It is they who will be truly successful.

9:21
Their Lord gives them good news of His mercy, His good pleasure, and paradise with everlasting bliss.

[They will be] abiding therein forever. Indeed, Allah has with Him a great reward.

9:23
O believers! Do not take your fathers and your brothers as your friends if they prefer Kufr (unbelief) over Iman (belief); for those who turn away from this commandment shall be considered wrongdoers.

Iman (Arabic): faith, belief.
wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
9:24
O Prophet, tell them: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your relatives, the wealth that you have acquired, the business in which you fear a loss, and the homes which you like are dearer to you than Allah, His Messenger, and making Jihad (struggle) in His Way, then wait until Allah brings about His decision. Allah does not guide the transgressors.
Meaning:-
Transgressors: a person who is actually breaking the law, offend; sin.
9:25
Allah has indeed helped you in many battlefields and (recently) on the day of Hunain: when you were proud of your great numbers (the Muslim army was 12,000 strong and the unbelievers were only 4,000), but the numbers availed you nothing. The earth, with all its vastness, seemed to close in upon you, and you turned your backs and fled.
Meaning:-
Hunayn:The Battle of Hunayn was fought between Muhammad and his followers against the Bedouin tribe of Hawazin and its subsection the Thaqif in 630 in a valley on one of the roads leading from Mecca to al-Ta’if. The battle ended in a decisive victory for the Muslims, who captured enormous spoils.
Vastness: the quality of being extremely big
flee: run away from a place or situation of danger, escape quickly from dangerous situation or place.
9:26
Then Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers and sent down soldiers angels whom you did not see and punished those who disbelieved. And that is the recompense of the disbelievers.

Tranquility: calmness; peacefulness; quiet; serenity.
9:27
Then after that, you also witnessed that Allah guided to repent some of them whom He wanted, for Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
9:28
O believers! Know that polytheists (Mushrikin) are unclean; therefore, do not let them come near the Masjid-al-Haram after this year’s pilgrimage. If you fear poverty, soon Allah – if He so wills – enrich you out of His bounty. Allah is All-Knowledgeable, All-Wise.

9:29
Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture – [fight] until they give the jizyah (protection tax) willingly while they are humbled.
Meaning:-
Jizyah: the poll tax formerly paid by minority religious groups within the Muslim empire.
9:30
O The Jews say: “Uzair (Azra) is the son of Allah,” and the Christians say: ” Messiah (Christ) is the son of Allah.” That is what they say with their mouths, imitating the sayings of the former unbelievers. May Allah destroy them! How perverted they are!
Meaning:-
Uzair: “sons of Allah” was used by the Jews. A sect of them called ‘Uzair a son of Allah, according to Baidhawl. In Appendix II (Sura v.) that the constitution of Judaism dates from ‘Uzair (Ezra). The Christians still call Christ the Son of Allah.
Perverted: turned from what is right; wicked; misguided; distorted.
9:31
They (Jews and Christians) have taken their rabbis and priests to be their Lords beside Allah and so they did with Messiah (Jesus) the son of Maryam (Mary), although they were commanded in the Torah and the Gospel to worship none but One Ilah (Allah); besides Whom there is none worthy of worship. Exalted be He above those whom they associate with Him.
Meaning:-
Rabbis : a title of respect for a Jewish scholar or teacher.
9:32
They desire to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths but Allah will not allow it to happen, for He seeks to perfect His light even though the disbelievers may dislike it.

9:33
It is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, although they who associate others with Allah dislike it.

Manifest: to make clear or obvious to the eye or mind or the understanding; show plainly
9:34
O believers! Indeed most of the (Jewish) rabbis and (Christian) priests misappropriate the wealth of people and hinder them from the way of Allah. To those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in the way of Allah, proclaim a painful punishment.
Meaning:-
Rabbis: a title of respect for a Jewish scholar or teacher.
Hinder: to limit the ability of someone to do something, or to limit thedevelopment of something:
9:35
The Day will surely come when their treasure will be heated up in the fire of hell, and their foreheads, sides and backs branded with it. They will be told: “This is the treasure which you hoarded. Now taste what you were hoarding!”

Hoard: to collect large amounts of something and keep it in a safe, often secret,
9:36
Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them. And fight against the disbelievers collectively as they fight against you collectively. And know that Allah is with the righteous [who fear Him].

9:37
Indeed, the postponing [of restriction within sacred months] is an increase in disbelief by which those who have disbelieved are led [further] astray. They make it lawful one year and unlawful another year to correspond to the number made unlawful by Allah and [thus] make lawful what Allah has made unlawful. Made pleasing to them is the evil of their deeds; and Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.

9:38
O you who have believed, what is [the matter] with you that, when you are told to go forth in the cause of Allah , you adhere heavily to the earth? Are you satisfied with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But what is the enjoyment of worldly life compared to the Hereafter except a [very] little.

9:39
If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment and will replace you with another people, and you will not harm Him at all. And Allah is over all things competent.

9:40
˹It does not matter˺ if you ˹believers˺ do not support him, for Allah did in fact support him when the disbelievers drove him out ˹of Mecca˺ and he was only one of two. While they both were in the cave, he reassured his companion, “Do not worry; Allah is certainly with us.” So Allah sent down His serenity upon the Prophet, supported him with forces you ˹believers˺ did not see, and made the word of the disbelievers lowest, while the Word of Allah is supreme. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.
Meaning:-
serenity: the state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled.
9:41
Go forth, whether light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah . That is better for you, if you only knew.
Meaning:-
Forth: forwards, onward or outward in place or space; forward: to come forth; go forth. onward in time, in order, or in a series
9:42
As for the hypocrites, if the gain would have been immediate and the journey short, they would have certainly accompanied you, but the long journey (in Tabuk expedition) was too hard for them. To justify their not accompanying you, they would even swear by Allah, “If we were able, we would certainly have marched with you.” By doing so, they are destroying their own souls, for Allah knows that they are liars.
Meaning:-
Hypocrite: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion.
Tabuk: The Battle of Tabouk (also called the Battle of Tabuk) was a military expedition, which, was initiated by Muhammad (PBUH) in October, AD 630,8 AH
Expedition: Journey, voyage, tour, a journey or voyage undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose.
9:43
May Allah pardon you, [O Muhammad]; why did you give them permission [to remain behind]? [You should not have] until it was evident to you who were truthful and you knew [who were] the liars.
9:44
Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day will never ask you for exemption from fighting with their wealth and their persons. Allah is aware of those who are righteous.
Meaning:-
Righteous: (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous, very good; excellent.
9:45
Only those people ask for exemption who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day and whose hearts are filled with doubt, and are wavering because of their doubts.
9:46
If they had intended to march forth, they would certainly have made some preparation for it; but Allah did not like their going forth; so He made them lag behind and they were told “stay behind with those who stay behind.”

9:47
Had they gone with you they would have added nothing but corruption, and they would have made efforts to create disorder among your ranks, and there would have been some among you who would have listened to them. Allah knows the wrongdoers.

Indeed they had plotted sedition before and created disturbance to make you unsuccessful until the truth came through and the decree of Allah prevailed, even though they disliked it.

9:49
There are some of them who say, “Exempt me and do not expose me to temptation.” They have already fallen into temptation. And Hell will surely engulf the disbelievers.

engulf: completely surrounded, soaked, or covered. Fire, snow, smoke.
9:50
If good befalls you (O Muhammad), it grieves them, but if a calamity overtakes you, they say: “We took our precaution beforehand,” and they turn away rejoicing.
Meaning:-
Befalls: (of something bad) happen to someone, If something bad or dangerous befalls you, it happens to you.
Grieve: to feel or express great sadness, sorrow, mourn, upset, distress, pain, hurt
Calamity: an event causing great and often sudden damage or distress; a disaster.
Rejoice: feel or show great joy or delight.
9:51
O Prophet, tell them: “Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has written for us; He is our protector;” and in Allah let the believers put their trust.
9:52
Further tell them: “Can you expect for us anything other than two excellent things (victory or martyrdom)? But we are waiting for Allah to afflict you with punishment either from Himself or by our hands. So wait if you will; we too are waiting.”
Meaning:-
Afflict: (of a problem or illness) cause pain or suffering to; affect or trouble.
9:53
Say, “Spend willingly or unwillingly; never will it be accepted from you. Indeed, you have been a defiantly disobedient people.”
9:54
The reasons which prevent their contributions from being accepted are: that they disbelieve in Allah and His Messenger, that they come to offer Salah ( prayer ) but reluctantly, and that they offer contributions but unwillingly.
Meaning:-
Reluctantly: not willing to do something and therefore slow to do it:
9:55
So let not their wealth or their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in worldly life and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers.
9:56
And they swear by Allah that they are from among you while they are not from among you; but they are a people who are afraid.
9:57
If they could find a refuge or some caves or any place to enter [and hide], they would turn to it while they run heedlessly.
Meaning:-
refuge: something providing shelter, asylum, protection, safety
Heedless: careless; thoughtless; unmindful
9:58
And among them are some who criticize you concerning the [distribution of] charities. If they are given from them, they approve; but if they are not given from them, at once they become angry.
9:59
It would have been better for them, if they had only been pleased with what Allah and His Messenger had given them and said: “Allah is all-sufficient to us! Soon Allah will give us of His bounty, and so will His Messenger. Indeed to Allah do we turn our hopes.”

Bounty: generosity; liberality, a monetary gift or reward.
9:60
Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler – an obligation [imposed] by Allah . And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
Meaning:-
Zakat (Arabic: zakāt, “that which purifies”) is a form of alms-giving and religious tax in Islam, (alms means: charity, money or food given to poor people)
9:61
There are some people among them who hurt the Prophet saying: “He is one who believes everything that he hears.” Say: “It is good for you that he listens to what is best for you; he believes in Allah, has faith in the believers, and is a blessing for those of you who are true believers.” As for those who hurt the Messenger, will have a painful punishment.
9:62
They swear by Allah to you [Muslims] to satisfy you. But Allah and His Messenger are more worthy for them to satisfy, if they should be believers.
9:63
Don’t they know that anyone who opposes Allah and His Messenger shall live forever in the fire of hell? That surely is the worst humiliation.
9:64
The hypocrites fear that a sûrah should be revealed about them, exposing what is in their hearts. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Keep mocking! Allah will definitely bring to light what you fear.”
Meaning:-
Hypocrite: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion.
Mocking: making fun of someone or something in a cruel way, to ridicule by mimicry of action or speech.
9:65
And if you ask them, they will surely say, “We were only conversing and playing.” Say, “Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?”

9:66
Make no excuses now: you have rejected faith after your belief; even if We may pardon some of you who were not serious in participating, We will punish others amongst you, because they are criminals.
9:67
The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another. They enjoin what is wrong and forbid what is right and close their hands. They have forgotten Allah , so He has forgotten them [accordingly]. Indeed, the hypocrites – it is they who are the defiantly disobedient.
Meaning:-
Hypocrite: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion.
Forbid: refuse to allow (something), prohibit, not allowed, banned.
9:68
Allah has promised the hypocrite men, the hypocrite women, and the unbelievers the fire of hell to live therein forever, a sufficient recompense. Allah has cursed them and they shall have a lasting punishment.

Hypocrite: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion.
Recompense: to make compensation for something; repay someone.
9:69
Your behavior is just like those who have gone before you. They were mightier than you in power and more flourishing in wealth and children. They enjoyed their portion of this worldly life; thus have you enjoyed your portion as did those before you; and you have entered into vain discourses as they did. Consequently their deeds were fruitless in this world and in the Hereafter, and they are the ones who are the losers.
Meaning:-
Vain: unsuccessful; of no value
Discourses: discussion, conversation, talk, dialogue, conference, debate.
9:70
Have they not heard the news of those who have gone before them? The people of Nuh (Noah), Ad and Thamud; the people of Ibrahim (Abraham), the men of Madyan and the cities which were overthrown. Their messengers came to them with clear warnings; but they did not listen, Allah did not wrong them, but they wronged their own souls.
9:71
The believing men and believing women are guardians of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Those – Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.
Meaning:-
Forbid: refuse to allow (something), prohibit, not allowed, banned.
Zakah : is an Islamic finance term referring to the obligation that an individual has to donate a certain proportion of wealth each year to charitable causes. Zakat is a mandatory process for Muslims and is regarded as a form of worship.
Exalted: placed at a high or powerful level; held in high regard.
9:72
Allah has promised to the believers, both men and women, gardens beneath which rivers flow, to live therein forever, and they will have beautiful mansions in these gardens of everlasting bliss. Best of all, they will have the good pleasure of Allah. Now that is the highest achievement.

Bliss: perfect happiness; great joy.
9:73
O Prophet! Struggle against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be firm with them. Hell will be their home. What an evil destination!

Hypocrite: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion.
Firm: not weak or uncertain
9:74
They swear by Allah that they did not say [anything against the Prophet] while they had said the word of disbelief and disbelieved after their [pretense of] Islam and planned that which they were not to attain. And they were not resentful except [for the fact] that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them of His bounty. So if they repent, it is better for them; but if they turn away, Allah will punish them with a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And there will not be for them on earth any protector or helper.
Meaning:-
Resentful: feeling angry because you have been forced to accept someone or something that you do not like:

9:75
And there are some who had made a vow to Allah: “If He gives us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity and be of the righteous.”

9:76
But when he gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it and turned away while they refused.

So He penalized them with hypocrisy in their hearts until the Day they will meet Him – because they failed Allah in what they promised Him and because they [habitually] used to lie.
Meaning:-
hypocrisy: a situation in which someone pretends to believe something that they do not really
9:78
Did they not know that Allah knows their secrets and their private conversations and that Allah is the Knower of the unseen?
9:79
Those who criticize the contributors among the believers concerning [their] charities and [criticize] the ones who find nothing [to spend] except their effort, so they ridicule them – Allah will ridicule them, and they will have a painful punishment.
Meaning:-
Ridicule: make fun of, speech or action intended to cause contemptuous laughter at a person or thing; derision.
9:80
O Muhammad! It is the same, whether you ask forgiveness for them or not; even if you ask for their forgiveness seventy times, Allah is not going to forgive them: because they have disbelieved Allah and His Messenger. Allah does not guide those who are transgressors.
Meaning:-
Transgressors: a person who is actually breaking the law, offend; sin.
9:81
Those who remained behind (did not join the Tabuk expedition) were delighted to sit inactive behind Allah’s Messenger, and they hated to make Jihad with their goods and their persons in the cause of Allah. They said to each other “Do not go forth in the heat.” Say to them: “The fire of hell is much more severe in heat.” If only they could understand!
Meaning:-
Tabuk: The Battle of Tabouk (also called the Battle of Tabuk) was a military expedition, which, was initiated by Muhammad in October, AD 630,8 AH
Expedition: Journey, voyage, tour, a journey or voyage undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose.
Jihad: a struggle or fight against the enemies of Islam.
9:82
So let them laugh a little—they will weep much as a reward for what they have committed.
Meaning:-
Weep: to cry tears.
9:83
From now on, if Allah brings you among them and any of them ask your permission to go forth for Jihad, say: “You shall never be allowed to go forth with me nor fight an enemy in my company. You chose to sit inactive on the first occasion, therefore you shall now stay with those who stay behind.”
Meaning:-
Jihad: a struggle or fight against the enemies of Islam.
9:84
And do not pray [the funeral prayer, O Muhammad], over any of them who has died – ever – or stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient.
9:85
And let not their wealth and their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in this world and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers.
9:86
Whenever a sûrah is revealed stating, “Believe in Allah and struggle along with His Messenger,” the rich among them would ask to be exempt, saying, “Leave us with those who remain behind.”
9:87
They were satisfied to be with those who stay behind, and their hearts were sealed over, so they do not understand.
Meaning:-
sealed: closed, covered.
9:88
But the Messenger (Muhammad) and those who believed with him fought with their wealth and their lives. Those will have [all that is] good, and it is those who are the successful.
9:89
Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, to live therein forever: that is the greatest achievement.
Meaning:-
Beneath: below; in or to a lower place, position, underneath
9:90
Some from among the desert Arabs also came with their excuses, begging exemption to stay behind; thus, those who lied to Allah and His Messenger sat inactive. Soon a painful punishment shall seize those of them who disbelieved.
9:91
There is no blame on the disabled, the sick, and those lacking the means, to stay behind so long as they are sincere to Allah and His Messenger. There is no way (blame) against those righteous people. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Meaning:-
Righteous: (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous, very good; excellent.
9:92
Likewise, there is no blame on those who came to you and requested the conveyance to the battlefront and you said: “I am unable to provide you the conveyance,” and they returned with their eyes streaming with tears; they were filled with sorrow that they had no resources of going forth to the battlefield at their own expense.
Meaning:-
Conveyance: a means of transportation; a vehicle.
9:93
The way (blame) is only against those who begged exemption although they are rich. They preferred to be with those who remained behind. Allah has set a seal upon their hearts; so they do not know what they missed.
Meaning:-
Seal: close, cover.
9:94
They will apologize to you with all sorts of excuses when you return to them. Say: “Present no excuses: we shall not believe you: Allah has already revealed to us the whole truth about you. Now Allah and His Messenger will keep a watch over your conduct: in the end you will return to Him who knows what is hidden and what is open, and He will tell you all that you have been doing.”
9:95
They will swear by Allah to you when you return to them that you would leave them alone. So leave them alone; indeed they are evil; and their refuge is Hell as recompense for what they had been earning.
Meaning:-
refuge: something providing shelter, asylum, protection, safety
9:96
They will swear to you in order to please you, but even if you be pleased with them (accept their excuses), Allah will never be pleased with these transgressors.
Meaning:-
Transgressors: a person who is actually breaking the law, offend; sin.
9:97
The Arabs of the desert are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, and are least inclined to acknowledge the limits that Allah has revealed to his Messenger. Allah is All-Knowledgeable, All-Wise.
Meaning:-
hypocrisy: a situation in which someone pretends to believe something that they do not really
Inclined: Inclined means that you’re likely to do something, you’re leaning toward doing it, or you do it habitually.
9:98
Some of the desert Arabs look upon whatever they spend in the way of Allah as a penalty and wait for some misfortune to befall you. May misfortune befall them! Allah hears all and knows all.
9:99
But some of the desert Arabs believe in Allah and the Last Day, and look on what they spend in the way of Allah as a means of bringing them close to Allah and to the prayers of the Messenger. Indeed, closer they shall be brought: soon Allah will admit them to His mercy. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
9:100
As for the first pioneers who accepted Islam from the Muhajir (immigrants) and Ansar (supporters in Madinah) and those who follow them in good deeds, Allah is well pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they shall live forever: that is the mighty achievement.
Meaning:-
Pioneer: a person who is one of the first people to do something.
Beneath: below; in or to a lower place, position, underneath
9:101
Some of the desert Arabs around you are hypocrites, and so are some of the residents of Madinah, who are fanatical in their hypocrisy. You do not know them, but We know them. Soon We shall give them double punishment: then they shall be turned to the most severe chastisement.
Meaning:-
Hypocrite (hypocrisy): a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion.
Fanatical: holding extreme beliefs that may lead to unreasonable or violent behaviour:
Chastisement is the act of scolding or punishing someone, corporal punishment; a beating.
9:102
There are some who have confessed their sins: they have mixed records of good and bad deeds. It is quite possible that Allah may turn to them in mercy, for Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Meaning:-
Confess: to admit that you have done something wrong or something that you feel guilty or bad
9:103
Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [ Allah ‘s blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
Meaning:-
Invoke: to mention something in order to explain
Invocation: is an appeal to a higher power for help,
9:104
Do they not know that it is Allah who accepts repentance from His servants and receives charities and that it is Allah who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful?
9:105
And say, “Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so, will] His Messenger and the believers. And you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do.”
9:106
And others await Allah’s Decree, whether He will punish them or will forgive them. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
9:107
There are also those ˹hypocrites˺ who set up a mosque ˹only˺ to cause harm, promote disbelief, divide the believers, and as a base for those who had previously fought against Allah and His Messenger. They will definitely swear, “We intended nothing but good,” but Allah bears witness that they are surely liars.
Meaning:-
Hypocrite: a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess.
9:108
Do not ˹O Prophet˺ ever pray in it. Certainly, a mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy of your prayers. In it are men who love to be purified. And Allah loves those who purify themselves.
Meaning:-
Righteousness is a feeling or way of life that is all about doing the right thing: righteousness shows great concern for morals and ethics.
9:109
Then is one who laid the foundation of his building on righteousness [with fear] from Allah and [seeking] His approval better or one who laid the foundation of his building on the edge of a bank about to collapse, so it collapsed with him into the fire of Hell? And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.
Meaning:-
Righteousness is a feeling or way of life that is all about doing the right thing: righteousness shows great concern for morals and ethics.
9:110
The foundation of those who so build is never free from suspicion and shakiness in their hearts until their hearts are cut to pieces. Allah is Knowledgeable, Wise.
9:111
Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah , so they kill and are killed. This is a true promise which is binding on Him mentioned in Taurat (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel) and the Qur’an; and who is more true in fulfilling his promise than Allah? Rejoice, therefore, in the bargain which you have made, and that is a mighty achievement.
Meaning:-
Rejoice: feel or show great joy or delight.
9:112
[Such believers are] the repentant, the worshippers, the praisers [of Allah ], the travelers [for His cause], those who bow and prostrate [in prayer], those who enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and those who observe the limits [set by] Allah . And give good tidings to the believers.
Meaning:-
Repentant: feeling or showing regret for something said or done.
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
Forbid: refuse to allow (something), prohibit, not allowed, banned.
Tidings: news; information
9:113
It is not proper for the Prophet and those who believe that they should beg forgiveness for the polytheists, even though they be their relatives, after it has been explained to them that they are the companions of hellfire.
Meaning:-
Polytheist: belief in more than one god or in many gods.
9:114
Ibrahim (Abraham) prayed for his father’s forgiveness only to fulfill a promise he had made to him. But when it became clear to him that he was an enemy of Allah he disassociated himself from him. The fact is that Ibrahim was tenderhearted, forbearing.
Meaning:-
Tenderhearted: soft-hearted; sympathetic
Forbearing: patient, tolerant, easygoing, lenient, forgiving, understanding,
9:115
And Allah will never lead a people astray after He has guided them until He makes clear to them as to what they should avoid. Verily, Allah is the All-Knower of everything.
Meaning:-
Astray: into error, away from the correct path or direction
9:116
Surely it is Allah to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He gives life and causes to die. You have none besides Allah to protect or to help.
9:117
Allah forgave the Prophet and those Muhajir and the Ansar who stood by him in the time of distress, when some were on the point of losing heart. He turned to them in mercy. Surely to them He is Most Kind, Most Merciful.
Meaning:-
Muhajir is an Arabic word meaning immigrant.
Ansar (Arabic) “The Helpers”, “supporters”,
Distress: extreme anxiety, sorrow, or pain
9:118
And to the three who were left behind, until the earth became strait to them notwithstanding its spaciousness and their souls were also straitened to them; and they knew it for certain that there was no refuge from Allah but in Him; then He turned to them (mercifully) that they might turn (to Him); surely Allah is the Oft-returning (to mercy), the Merciful.
Meaning:-
Refuge: something providing shelter, asylum, protection, safety
9:119
O believers! Have fear of Allah and be with those who are truthful in word and deed.
9:120
It was not [proper] for the people of Madinah and those surrounding them of the bedouins that they remain behind after [the departure of] the Messenger of Allah or that they prefer themselves over his self. That is because they are not afflicted by thirst or fatigue or hunger in the cause of Allah , nor do they tread on any ground that enrages the disbelievers, nor do they inflict upon an enemy any infliction but that is registered for them as a righteous deed. Indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of the doers of good.
Meaning:-
Bedouin: an Arab of the desert.
Afflict: (of a problem or illness) cause pain or suffering to; affect or trouble.
Fatigue: sleepiness, drowsiness, extreme tiredness, typically resulting from mental or physical exertion or illness.
Tread: walk in a specified way.
Enrage: make very angry.
Inflict: impose something unwelcome on.
Righteous: (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous, very good; excellent.
Doer : the person who does something.
9:121
Nor do they spend anything (in Allah’s Cause) – small or great – nor cross a valley, but is written to their credit, that Allah may recompense them with the best of what they used to do (i.e. Allah will reward their good deeds according to the reward of their best deeds which they did in the most perfect manner).
Meaning:-
Recompense: compensation or reward given for loss or harm suffered or effort made.
9:122
And it is not for the believers to go forth [to battle] all at once. For there should separate from every division of them a group [remaining] to obtain understanding in the religion and warn their people when they return to them that they might be cautious.
Meaning:-
cautious: careful to avoid problems or danger.
9:123
O believers! Fight the disbelievers around you and let them find firmness in you. And know that Allah is with those mindful ˹of Him˺.
Meaning:-
Firmness : solidness; being in control; strength. permanence; stability; hardness; resolution.
9:124
Whenever a Surah is revealed, some of them ask: “Whose faith from among you has increased by this?” Certainly the faith of the believers is increased and they do rejoice.
Meaning:-
Rejoice: feel or show great joy or delight.
9:125
But as for those in whose hearts is disease, it has [only] increased them in evil [in addition] to their evil. And they will have died while they are disbelievers.
9:126
Do they not see that they are tried once or twice every year (with different kinds of calamities, disease, famine? Yet they neither repent nor do they learn a lesson (from it).
Meaning:-
Calamity: an event causing great and often sudden damage or distress; a disaster.
famine: a severe shortage of food, as through crop failure or disaster.
Explanation: Their hypocrisy is exposed over and over again. “every year once or twice” – Yet, in spite of their infidelity, one or two chances are given them every year. The door is not closed to them. Yet they deliberately turn away, and take no heed of all the warnings which their own nature and the teaching and example of good men should give them.
9:127
And whenever there comes down a Surah (chapter from the Quran), they look at one another (saying): “Does any one see you?” Then they turn away. Allah has turned their hearts (from the light) because they are a people that understand not.
Meaning:-
Light: Guidance, (Hidayat), wisdom.
9:128
Now, there has come to you a Messenger from among yourselves, the one who grieves at your loss and who is excessively anxious for your success in both worlds, and who is compassionate and merciful towards the believers.
Meaning:-
Grieve: to cause (someone) to feel sad or unhappy.
Excessively: to a greater degree or in greater amounts than is necessary,
Anxious: worried and nervous, very concerned.
9:129
But if they turn away, [O Muhammad], say, “Sufficient for me is Allah ; there is no deity except Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.”
Meaning:-
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
10:1
Alif-Lam-Ra.
[These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book (the Quran) Al-Hakim [showing lawful and unlawful things, explaining Allah’s (Divine) Laws for mankind, leading them to eternal happiness by ordering them to follow the true Islamic Monotheism, – worshipping none but Allah Alone – that will guide them to Paradise and save them from Hell].
Meaning:-
Divine: proceeding from God, extremely good; unusually lovely.
Monotheism: the doctrine or belief that there is only one God.
10:2
Is it astonishing to people that We have sent revelation to a man (messenger) from among themselves, ˹instructing him,˺ “Warn humanity and give good news to the believers that they will have an honourable status with their Lord.”? Yet the disbelievers said, “Indeed, this ˹man˺ is clearly a magician!”
Meaning:-
Astonishing: extremely surprising or impressive; amazing.
10:3
Indeed, your Lord is Allah , who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne, arranging the matter [of His creation]. There is no intercessor except after His permission. That is Allah , your Lord, so worship Him. Then will you not remember?
Meaning:-
six days: (time periods): The word day is not always used in the Quran to mean a 24-hour period. According to 22:47, a heavenly Day is 1000 years of our time. The Day of Judgment will be 50 000 years of our time (see 70:4). Hence, the six Days of creation refer to six eons (Eon means: a unit of time equal to a billion years. of time, known only by Allah.)
Intercessor: a person who intervenes on behalf of another, especially by prayer.
10:4
To Him you shall all return. Allah’s promise is true. He is the One Who originates the process of Creation and repeats it (will bring it back to life) so that He may justly reward those who believed in Him and did righteous deeds. As for those who disbelieved, they shall have boiling fluids to drink and shall undergo a painful punishment because they rejected the truth.
Meaning:-
Righteous: (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous, very good; excellent.
10:5
He is the One Who gave the sun its brightness and the moon a reflected light, with precisely ordained phases, so that you may know the number of years and calculation ˹of time˺. Allah did not create all this except for a purpose. He makes the signs clear for people who want to understand.
Meaning:-
Precisely: something done with complete accuracy or perfection, in exact terms; without vagueness.
Ordained: to establish or order by appointment, decree, or law.
10:6
Indeed, in the alternation of the night and the day and [in] what Allah has created in the heavens and the earth are signs for a people who fear Allah
10:7
Indeed, those who do not expect the meeting with Us and are satisfied with the life of this world and feel secure therein and those who are neglectful of Our signs
10:8
Their home will be the Fire because of what they used to earn.
10:9
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds – their Lord will guide them because of their faith. Beneath them rivers will flow in the Gardens of Pleasure
Meaning:-
Beneath: below; in or to a lower place, position, underneath
Righteous: (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous, very good; excellent.
10:10
Their slogan therein will be: “Glory to You O Allah!” And their greetings therein will be “Peace be upon you!” And their closing remarks will be: “All praises are for Allah Alone, the Lord of the Worlds!”
10:11
If Allah were to hasten the punishment for their evil as they hasten in asking good of this world, then the respite given to the people would have been terminated, but this is not Our way. We leave those people alone who do not entertain the hope of meeting Us, to blunder about in their rebellion.
Meaning:-
Hasten: be quick to do something, hurry, rush.
Respite: a period of temporary delay, a short period of rest or relief from something.
Terminated: to bring to an end; put an end.
Blunder: a stupid or careless mistake.
Rebellion: disobedience, insubordination.
10:12
Whenever someone is touched by hardship, they cry out to Us, whether lying on their side, sitting, or standing. But when We relieve their hardship, they return to their old ways as if they had never cried to Us to remove any hardship! This is how the misdeeds of the transgressors have been made appealing to them.
Meaning:-
Hardship: causes suffering or unpleasantness,
Transgressors: a person who is actually breaking the law, offend; sin.
10:13
We surely destroyed ˹other˺ peoples (generations) before you when they did wrong, and their messengers came to them with clear proofs but they would not believe! This is how We reward the wicked people.
Meaning:-
wicked: evil or morally wrong.
10:14
Then We made you successors in the land after them so that We may observe how you will do.
10:15
When Our clear verses are recited to them, those who entertain no hope of meeting Us say to you: “Bring us a Qur’an different than this or make some changes in it.” O Muhammad, tell them: “It is not possible for me to change it myself. I follow only what is revealed to me. Indeed, I cannot disobey my Lord, for I fear the punishment of a Mighty Day.”
10:16
Say: “If Allah wanted otherwise, I would have not recited this (Qur’an) to you, nor would have made you aware of it. Indeed, a whole lifetime I lived among you before its revelation. Why you do not use your common-sense?”
10:17
So who is more unjust than he who invents a lie about Allah or denies His signs? Indeed, the criminals will not succeed
10:18
They worship other deities besides Allah, who can neither harm them nor benefit them, and they say: “These are our intercessors with Allah.” Ask ˹them, O Muhammad˺, “Are you informing Allah of something He does not know in the heavens or the earth? Glory to Him! He is far above from having the partners they ascribe to Him!”
Meaning:-
Deities: Gods; Supreme Being, like a gods or goddess, Fake Gods.
Intercessors: a person who intervenes on behalf of another, especially by prayer, the action of intervening on behalf of another.
ascribe: attribute something to (a cause), to give credit to, to attribute as a quality; consider as belonging to, is associated with a particular thing.
10:19
Mankind was once just one nation; later on they became divided through inventing different creeds. If your Lord had not already given His word ( specified time for the life of mankind on Earth), the matters in which they differ would have certainly been decided.
Meaning:-
Creeds: formula of religious belief
10:20
In regards to their saying: “Why has not a sign been sent down to him (Muhammad) from his Lord?” Tell them: ” Allah Alone has the knowledge of the unseen. Wait if you will: I too shall wait with you.”
10:21
When We show mercy to mankind after some calamity had afflicted them, they begin to plot against Our verses.! Tell them: “Allah is more Swift in plotting than you; indeed Our angels are recording all the plots you make.”
Meaning:-
Calamity: an event causing great and often sudden damage or distress; a disaster.
Afflict: (of a problem or illness) cause pain or suffering to; affect or trouble, burden.
Swift: happening quickly or promptly.
10:22
He is the One Who enables you to travel through land and sea. And it so happens that you are on ships, sailing with a favourable wind, to the passengers’ delight. Suddenly, the ships are overcome by a stormy wind and those on board are overwhelmed by waves from every side, and they assume they are doomed. They cry out to Allah ˹alone˺ in sincere devotion, “If You save us from this, we will certainly be grateful.”
Meaning:-
Enables: opportunity, ability to, capacity.
Doomed: certain to fail, die, or be destroyed:
Overwhelm: overpower, overcome by force, as floodwaters, debris.
Devotion: prayers, religious worship or religious observances.
10:23
But when He saves them, at once they commit injustice upon the earth without right. O mankind, your injustice is only against yourselves, [being merely] the enjoyment of worldly life. Then to Us is your return, and We will inform you of what you used to do.
10:24
The example of this worldly life (which you love so much that you have even become neglectful of Our signs) is like the water which We send down from the sky; it mingles with the soil and produces vegetation which becomes the food for men and animals. Then, at the very time when the crops are ripened and the land looks attractive, the people to whom it belongs think that they are able to cultivate it, and there comes Our scourge upon it, by night or by day, and We mow it down thoroughly as if nothing existed there yesterday! This is how We make the signs clear for people who are thoughtful.
Meaning:-
Mingle: mix or cause to mix together.
Ripen: become or make ripe.
Scourge: to cause great suffering, a cause of affliction or calamity.
10:25
And Allah invites to the Home of Peace and guides whom He wills to a straight path
10:26
For them who have done good is the best [reward] and extra. No darkness will cover their faces, nor humiliation. Those are companions of Paradise; they will abide therein eternally
Meaning:-
Abide: to remain; continue; stay:
eternally: in a way that continues or lasts forever; permanently.
10:27
As for those who have done evil deeds, they will be rewarded with like evil: disgrace will cover them – they shall have none to protect them from Allah – as if their faces have been covered with patches of the dense darkness of night. They will become the inmates of the Fire; they will live therein forever.
Meaning:-
Disgrace: Loss of honor, respect, or reputation; shame.
Inmate: is a person who lives in a specific place, especially someone who’s confined there, like a prisoner.
10:28
And [mention, O Muhammad], the Day We will gather them all together – then We will say to those who associated others with Allah , “[Remain in] your place, you and your ‘partners.’ ” Then We will separate them, and their “partners” will say, “You did not used to worship us,
10:29
Allah is an all-sufficient witness between you and us, (even if you worshipped us) we were quite unaware of your worship.”
10:30
Thereupon, every soul shall know what it had sent forth, as they will be brought in the Court of Allah, their true Patron, and their invented falsehoods will leave them in the lurch.
Falsehoods: lie, untruth, fabrication, invention, fairy tale.
Lurch: to leave in an uncomfortable or desperate situation; desert in time of trouble.
10:31
Say, “Who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? Or who controls hearing and sight and who brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and who arranges [every] matter?” They will say, ” Allah ,” so say, “Then will you not fear Him?”
10:32
The same Allah is your real Lord: What is left after the truth except falsehood? How then can you turn away?
Meaning:-
Falsehood: lie, untruth, fabrication, invention, fairy tale.
10:33
Thus has the Word of your Lord proved true in regards to the transgressors that they do not believe.
Meaning:-
Transgressors: a person who is actually breaking the law, offend; sin.
10:34
Say, “Are there of your ‘partners’ any who begins creation and then repeats it?” Say, ” Allah begins creation and then repeats it, so how are you deluded?”
Meaning:-
Delude: to mislead the mind or judgment of; deceive:
10:35
Say, “Are there of your ‘partners’ any who guides to the truth?” Say, ” Allah guides to the truth. So is He who guides to the truth more worthy to be followed or he who guides not unless he is guided? Then what is [wrong] with you – how do you judge?”
10:36
Most of them follow nothing but ˹inherited˺ assumptions. ˹And˺ surely assumptions can in no way replace the truth. Allah is indeed All-Knowing of what they do.

This Qur’an is not such as could be produced by anyone other than Allah; in fact it is the confirmation of prior revelations (Psalms, Torah, and Gospel) and fully explains the Holy Book (prior scriptures); there is no doubt in this fact that it is (revealed) from the Lord of the Worlds.
10:38
Or do they say [about the Prophet], “He invented it?” Say, “Then bring forth a surah like it and call upon [for assistance] whomever you can besides Allah , if you should be truthful.”
10:39
In fact, they ˹hastily˺ rejected the Book without comprehending it and before the fulfilment of its warnings. Similarly, those before them were in denial. See then what was the end of the wrongdoers!
Meaning:-
Hastily: speedily, with excessive speed or urgency; hurriedly.
Comprehend: To grasp mentally; understand, to perceive.
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
10:40
And of them are those who believe in it, and of them are those who do not believe in it. And your Lord is most knowing of the corrupters
10:41
And if they deny you, [O Muhammad], then say, “For me are my deeds, and for you are your deeds. You are disassociated from what I do, and I am disassociated from what you do.”
10:42
There are some among them who pretend to hear you what you say: but can you make the deaf listen to you, incapable as they are of understanding?
10:43
And among them are those who look at you. But can you guide the blind although they will not [attempt to] see?
10:44
The fact is that Allah does not do injustice to mankind in any way: but men are unjust to their own souls.
10:45
On that Day when He will gather them all together, it will appear to them as if they had not stayed in this world but an hour of a day to get to know each other. At that time they will realize that: in fact the losers are those who denied the meeting with Allah and were not rightly guided.
10:46
And whether We show you some of what We promise them, [O Muhammad], or We take you in death, to Us is their return; then, [either way], Allah is a witness concerning what they are doing
10:47
Every nation was sent a messenger. Once their messenger came, judgement was passed between them with all fairness and they were not wronged in the least.
10:48
And they say, “When is [the fulfillment of] this promise, if you should be truthful?”
10:49
Say: “I have no control over any harm or benefit to myself, except what Allah wills. For every nation there is a deadline: when their deadline comes, it can neither be delayed for even a moment, nor it can be advanced.
10:50
Say: “Have you ever considered that if his scourge fall upon you by night or by day you can do nothing to avert it? What then is there that the criminals wish to hasten?
Meaning:-
Scourge: a whip or lash, especially for the infliction of punishment or torture, a cause of affliction or calamity
Avert: to turn away or aside:
10:51
Would you believe it when it actually overtakes you? Then you would beg it to be removed although it had been your own wish to hurry it on.”
10:52
Then it will be said to the wrongdoers: “Taste the everlasting punishment! Should you not be rewarded according to your deeds?”
Meaning:-
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
10:53
They ask you: “Is what you say really true?” Tell them: “Yes! By my Lord, it is absolutely true! And you will not be able to avert it.”
Meaning:-
Avert: to turn away or aside:
10:54
If every person that has done injustice possessed all that the earth contains, he would be willing to offer it all in ransom to redeem himself if he could. They will regret in their hearts when they see the punishment of Hell. The decision between them will be made with justice and no wrong will be done to them.
Meaning:-
Ransom: to deliver or redeem from punishment for sin, to release or restore on receipt of a ransom.
10:55
Be aware! All that is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. Be aware! The promise of Allah is true, yet most of them do not know.
10:56
He is the One Who gives life and causes death, and to Him you shall all return.
10:57
O mankind, there has to come to you instruction from your Lord and healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers.
10:58
Say: “It is the grace and mercy of Allah (that He has sent this Qur’an), so let the people rejoice over it, for it is better than (the worldly riches) they are collecting.”
Meaning:-
Rejoice: feel or show great joy or delight.
10:59
Ask ˹the pagans, O Prophet˺, “Have you seen that which Allah has sent down for you as a provision, of which you have made some lawful and some unlawful?” Say, “Has Allah given you authorization, or are you fabricating lies against Allah?”
Meaning:-
Pagans: Worship more than one god, A follower of a polytheistic.
10:60
And what will be the supposition of those who invent falsehood about Allah on the Day of Resurrection? Indeed, Allah is full of bounty to the people, but most of them are not grateful.”
Meaning:-
Supposition : assumes to be true, although they may have no evidence for it.
Bounty: a generous gift, a premium or reward
10:61
There is no activity you may be engaged in ˹O Prophet˺ or portion of the Quran you may be reciting, nor any deed you ˹all˺ may be doing except that We are a Witness over you while doing it. Not ˹even˺ an atom’s weight is hidden from your Lord on earth or in heaven; nor anything smaller or larger than that, but is ˹written˺ in a perfect Record.
10:62
Now surely the friends of Allah– they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve.
10:63
Those who believed and were fearing Allah
10:64
for them there is good news in this life and in the hereafter – Allah’s Words do not change – this is indeed the mighty achievement.
10:65
Do not let their words grieve you ˹O Prophet˺. Surely all honour and power belongs to Allah. He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
Meaning:-
Grieve: mourn, sorrow, sadden, upset, distress.
10:66
Be aware! Indeed whatever is in the Heavens and in the Earth belongs to Allah. Those who Invoke other deities besides Allah follow nothing but conjectures and preach nothing but falsehood.
Meaning:-
Invoke: call on (a deity or spirit) in prayer, as a witness, or for inspiration.
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
Conjecture: the formation or theory without sufficient evidence for proof.
10:67
He is the One Who has made the night for you to rest therein and the day so that you can see. Indeed, there are signs in this for those who listen to His message.
10:68
They (The Christians, pagans, etc.) say: “Allah has begotten a son!” Glory be to Him! He is self-sufficient! His is all that is in the Heavens and in the Earth! Have you any proof for what you say? Would you ascribe to Allah something about which you have no knowledge?
Meaning:-
Pagans: Worship more than one god, A follower of a polytheistic.
Ascribe: is to give credit for something to a specific cause, to attribute as a quality; consider as belonging to.
10:69
Say, “Indeed, those who invent falsehood about Allah will not succeed.”
10:70
Well, they may have a little enjoyment in this world, but eventually they have to return to Us and then We will make them taste the severest punishment for their unbelief.
10:71
Quote to them ˹O Prophet˺ the story of Noah when he said to his people, “O my People! If my presence and my reminders to you of Allah’s signs are unbearable to you, then ˹know that˺ I have put my trust in Allah. So devise a plot along with your associate-gods—(deities you worship) and you do not have to be secretive about your plot—then carry it out against me without delay!
Meaning:-
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
10:72
If you have turned away from my message, I did not lose any thing, for I did not ask any reward from you for my services: my reward is only with Allah, I have been commanded to become a Muslim.”
10:73
But they disbelieved him. As a result, We saved him and those of them who were with him in the Ark and We made them successors in the Earth and drowned those who rejected Our signs. You see what was the end of those who were warned but did not believe!
Meaning:-
Ark: a large wooden ship built by prophet Noah (PBUH).
10:74
Then after him We sent ˹other˺ messengers to their ˹own˺ people and they came to them with clear proofs. But they would not believe in what they had rejected before. This is how We seal the hearts of the transgressors.
Meaning:-
Transgressors: a person who is actually breaking the law, offend; sin.
10:75
Then later on We sent Musa (Moses) and Haroon (Aaron) to Fir’on (Pharaoh) and his chiefs with Our signs. But they showed arrogance, for they were a guilty nation.
Meaning:-
Arrogance: behaving that comes from believing that you are better, smarter, or more important than other people.
10:76
So when there came to them the truth from Us, they said, “Indeed, this is obvious magic.”
10:77
Moses said, “Do you say [thus] about the truth when it has come to you? Is this magic? But magicians will not succeed.”
10:78
They said: “Have you come to turn us away from the faith of our forefathers in order that you two (Musa and Haroon) may become the leaders in the land? We will never believe in you!”
10:79
Pharaoh (Fir’on) said: “Bring me every skillful magician.”
10:80
So when the magicians came, Moses said to them, “Throw down whatever you will throw.”
10:81
So when they had thrown, Musa said: “The magic that you have brought, Allah will surely prove it wrong: for Allah does not promote the work of mischief makers.
10:82
And Allah will establish the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it.”
10:83
None but a few youth from his own people believed in Musa (Moses), because of the fear of Fir’on (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, lest they should persecute them; and certainly Fir’on was mighty in the land and the one who did not hesitate to transgress any limit.
Meaning:-
Persecute: to harass or punish in a manner designed to injure, grieve, or afflict specifically : to cause to suffer because of belief.
Transgress: to violate a law, command, moral code, etc.; offend; sin.
10:84
And Moses said, “O my people, if you have believed in Allah , then rely upon Him, if you should be Muslims.”
Meaning:-
Rely: depend on with full trust or confidence.
10:85
They replied: “In Allah do we put our trust. Our Lord! Do not let us suffer at the hands of unjust people,
10:86
And save us by Your mercy from the disbelieving people.”
10:87
We revealed Our will to Musa and his brother, saying: “Take your people to dwell in Egypt, and make your houses as your Qiblah (places of worship) and establish Salah and give good news to the believers!”
Meaning:-
Dwell: a house, or other place of residence.
10:88
Musa prayed: “Our Lord! You have indeed bestowed on Fir’on and his chiefs splendor and wealth in this worldly life. Our Lord, have you done this so that they may mislead people from Your way? Our Lord, destroy their wealth and harden their hearts, so that they may not believe until they see the painful punishment.”
Meaning:-
Bestow: an honor, right, or gift
Splendor: magnificent features or qualities.
10:89
Allah replied: “Your prayer shall be answered! So remain steadfast and do not follow the path of those who have no knowledge.”
Meaning:-
Steadfast: loyal, faithful, committed, devoted, dedicated, dependable, reliable.
path: way
10:90
We led the Children of Israel across the sea. Fir’on and his hosts pursued them with wickedness and oppression, until when drowning, he cried out: “I believe that there is no god but Him in Whom the Children of Israel believe and I have become one of the Muslims.”
Meaning:-
pursue: follow, run after, chase.
Wickedness: the quality of being evil or morally wrong.
Oppression: prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control.
10:91
In response it was said to him: “Now you believe! But a little while before you were disobedient and one of the mischief-makers!
10:92
We shall save your (Fir’on) body (out from the sea) this day, so that you may become a sign for the succeeding generations, indeed many among mankind are heedless of Our signs!”
Meaning:-
Succeeding: coming after something in time; subsequent..( subsequent means: future, coming, to come, next, following)
Heedless: careless; thoughtless; unmindful, taking no notice
10:93
We settled the Children of Israel in a respectable dwelling place and provided them with the good things of life. They did not cause dissension until after knowledge had come to them. Surely your Lord will judge between them in those matters in which they caused dissension on the Day of Resurrection.
Meaning:-
Dwelling: a house, or other place of residence.
Dissension: disagreement, difference of opinion, dispute.
10:94
If you are in doubt regarding what We have revealed to you, ask those who have been reading the Book before you. In fact, the truth has indeed come to you from your Lord: therefore, do not be of those who doubt,
10:95
And never be of those who deny the signs of Allah and [thus] be among the losers.
10:96
In fact, those against whom the Word of your Lord has proved true will not believe,
10:97
even if every sign should come to them, until they themselves see the painful punishment.
10:98
Then has there not been a [single] city that believed so its faith benefited it except the people of Yunus (Jonah)? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in worldly life and gave them enjoyment for a time.
Meaning:-
Disgrace: loss of reputation or respect, especially as the result of a dishonorable action.
10:99
Had your Lord so willed ˹O Prophet˺, all ˹people˺ on earth would have certainly believed, every single one of them! Would you then force people to become believers?
10:100
It is not possible for anyone to believe except by the permission of Allah, and He throws filth on those who do not use their common-sense.
Meaning:-
Filth: disgusting dirt. Thick, unpleasant dirt.
10:101
Say: “Look at whatever exists in the heavens and the earth.” Signs and warnings do not benefit those people who do not believe.
10:102
So do they wait except for like [what occurred in] the days of those who passed on before them? Say, “Then wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait.”
10:103
When such a time comes, We rescue Our messengers and those who believe – this is Our way; it is but right that We rescue the believers.
10:104
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “O humanity! If you are in doubt of my faith, then ˹know that˺ I do not worship those ˹idols˺ you worship instead of Allah. But I worship Allah, Who has the power to cause your death. And I have been commanded, ‘Be one of the believers,’
10:105
I am further commanded: ” Dedicate yourself to the Deen (Faith) in all uprightness and be not of those who ascribe partners (to Allah).
Meaning:-
Deen (Deen is an Arabic word): the religion or belief of a Muslim.
Ascribe: attribute something to (a cause), to give credit to, to attribute as a quality; consider as belonging to, is associated with a particular thing.
10:106
You shall not pray to others than Allah who can neither benefit nor harm you, for if you do, you shall certainly become one of the wrongdoers.
Meaning:-
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
10:107
If Allah afflicts you with a calamity, none can remove it but He; and if He intends to bestow a favor, none can withhold His bounty. He bestows it on whomsoever of His servants He pleases; He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”
Meaning:-
Afflict: (of a problem or illness) cause pain or suffering to; affect or trouble.
Calamity: an event causing great and often sudden damage or distress; a disaster.
Bestow: an honor, right, or gift
Bounty: generosity; liberality, a monetary gift or reward.
10:108
Tell them, ˹O Muhammad,˺ “O mankind! The truth (i.e. the Quran) has surely come to you from your Lord. So whoever chooses to be guided, it is only for their own good. And whoever chooses to stray, it is only to their own loss. And I am not a keeper over you.”
Meaning:-
Astray: move about aimlessly or without any destination, away from the correct path or direction
10:109
And follow what is revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and be patient until Allah will judge. And He is the best of judges.
11:1
Alif, Lam, Ra. [This is] a Book whose verses are perfected and then presented in detail from [one who is] Wise and Acquainted.
Meaning:-
Acquainted:-: make someone aware of or familiar with.
11:2
[Through a messenger, saying], “Do not worship except Allah . Indeed, I am to you from Him a warner and a bringer of good tidings,”
Meaning:-
Tidings: news; information.
11:3
You should seek forgiveness of your Lord and turn to Him in repentance; He will grant you good provisions till an appointed term, and bestow His grace on everyone who has merit! But if you turn away (pay no heed), I fear for you the punishment of a Great Day.
Meaning:-
Bestow: to present as a gift, an honor
11:4
To Allah is your return, and He has power over all things.
11:5
Unquestionably, they the disbelievers turn away their breasts to hide themselves from Him. Unquestionably, [even] when they cover themselves in their clothing, Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
Meaning:-
Conceal: to hide, to keep secret, to prevent or avoid disclosing, keep secret.
11:6
There is no moving creature on Earth whose sustenance is not provided by Allah. He knows its living and its resting place, and all that is recorded in a glorious Book.
Meaning:-
Sustenance: food and drink regarded as a source of strength; nourishment.
11:7
He is the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six days – at the time when His Throne was rested on the water – so that He may test to find out which of you is the best in deeds. Now if you tell them:” You shall indeed be raised up after death,” the unbelievers would certainly say: “This is nothing but sheer magic!”
Meaning:-
Six days (time periods): The word day is not always used in the Quran to mean a 24-hour period. According to 22:47, a heavenly Day is 1000 years of our time. The Day of Judgment will be 50 000 years of our time (see 70:4). Hence, the six Days of creation refer to six eons (Eon means: a unit of time equal to a billion years. of time, known only by Allah.)
Sheer: clear; completely
11:8
And if We delay their punishment until an appointed time, they will definitely say, “What is holding it back?” Beware! When the Day of that punishment comes, nothing will hold it back from them and they will be completely encircled by that which they are ridiculing.
Meaning:-
Encircled: completely surround someone.
Ridiculing: action intended to cause contemptuous laughter at a person or thing, make fun of.
11:9
And if We give man a taste of Mercy from Us, and then withdraw it from him, verily! He is despairing, ungrateful.
Meaning:-
despairing: showing the loss of all hope.
11:10
But if We give him a taste of favor after hardship has touched him, he will surely say, “Bad times have left me.” Indeed, he is exultant and boastful –
Meaning:-
Exultant: joyous, joyful, happy, delighted
Boastful: praising yourself, a statement in which you express too much pride in yourself
11:11
Except those who show patience and do righteous good deeds, those: theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward.
Meaning:-
Righteous: (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous, very good; excellent.
11:12
O Prophet (Muhammad), be on your guard lest you omit to recite some things which are being revealed to you feeling distressed in your heart that they might say: “Why has no treasure been sent down to him, or why has no angel come with him?” You should know that you are nothing but a Warner! It is Allah Who is the Custodian of everything.
Meaning:-
Omit: fail to mention, miss, pass over.
Distressed: sorrow, or pain.
11:13
Do they say: “He has made up the Qur’an himself.” Say to them: “Make up ten Surahs like this and call to your aid whomsoever you can, including your gods whom you worship, besides Allah if what you say is true.
11:14
But if those gods fail to answer you, then you should know that (they are false gods and that) this (Book) is revealed with the knowledge of Allah, and that there is no god but Him! Will you then become Muslims?”
11:15
Those who desire the life of this world and its splendors, they are given full reward of their deeds therein and shall not be diminished.
Meaning:-
Splendor: brilliant or gorgeous appearance, coloring, etc.; magnificence.
Diminish: to make or cause to seem smaller, less, less important, etc.; lessen;reduce.
11:16
They are the ones who will have nothing in the hereafter except Hellfire. There they shall come to know that their deeds were fruitless and their actions were worthless.
11:17
Can they (Muslims) who rely on a clear proof (the Quran) from their Lord, and whom a witness [Prophet Muhammad through Jibrael (Gabriel)] from Him follows it (can they be equal with the disbelievers); and before it, came the Book of Musa (Moses), a guidance and a mercy, they believe therein, but those of the sects that reject it (the Quran), the Fire will be their promised meeting-place. So be not in doubt about it (i.e. those who denied Prophet Muhammad and also denied all that which he brought from Allah, surely, they will enter Hell). Verily, it is the truth from your Lord, but most of the mankind believe not.
Meaning:-
Sects: a group of people with somewhat different religious beliefs (typically regarded as heretical) from those of a larger group to which they belong.
11:18
And who is more unjust than he who invents a lie about Allah ? Those will be presented before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, “These are the ones who lied against their Lord.” Unquestionably, the curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers.
Meaning:-
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
11:19
who hinder others from the path of Allah and seek to make it crooked, and who deny the hereafter.
Meaning:-
Hinder: to prevent from doing, acting, or happening; stop, to cause delay, interruption, or difficulty in
Path: way
Crooked: not straightforward; dishonest or illegal.
11:20
They will never frustrate Allah on earth, and they will have no protector besides Allah. Their punishment will be doubled, for they failed to hear or see ˹the truth˺.
11:21
They are those who have lost their own selves, and their invented false deities will vanish from them.
Meaning:-
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
11:22
Certainly, they are those who will be the greatest losers in the Hereafter.
11:23
As for those who believe and do good deeds and humble themselves before their Lord, they will be residents of paradise to live therein forever.
11:24
The example of these two kinds of people is like two men, one of whom is blind and deaf, and the other who can see and hear. Are they equal when compared? Will you not then learn a lesson from this example?
11:25
And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, [saying], ” Indeed, I am to you a clear warner
11:26
not to worship anyone except Allah; otherwise I am afraid for you the punishment of a painful Day.”
11:27
The disbelieving chiefs of his people said, “We see you only as a human being like ourselves, and we see that no one follows you except the lowliest among us, who do so ˹hastily˺ without thinking. We do not see anything that makes ˹all of˺ you any better than us. In fact, we think you are liars.”
Meaning:-
Hastily: Done or made without due consideration or attention. unnecessarily quickly or rashly; impetuously.
11:28
He said, “O my people! Consider if I stand on a clear proof from my Lord and He has blessed me with a mercy from Himself, which you fail to see. Should we ˹then˺ force it on you against your will?
11:29
O my people! I do not ask you any wealth for this work (message), for none but Allah can reward me. And I will never dismiss the believers, for they will surely meet their Lord. But I can see that you are a people acting ignorantly.
ignorance.
Meaning:-
Dismiss: treat as unworthy of serious consideration.
Ignorant : lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about a particular thing.
11:30
O my people! Who would protect me from Allah if I were to dismiss them? Don’t you understand this simple thing?
Meaning:-
Dismiss: treat as unworthy of serious consideration.
11:31
I do not say that I possess the Treasures of Allah, nor do I say that I have knowledge of the unseen, nor do I claim to be an angel, nor do I say that Allah will never grant goodness to those you look down upon. Allah knows best what is ˹hidden˺ within them. ˹If I did,˺ then I would truly be one of the wrongdoers.”
Meaning:-
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
11:32
They said: “O Nuh! You have argued with us and argued too much, now bring upon us the scourge with which you threaten us, if what you say is true.”
Meaning:-
Scourge: a whip used as an instrument of punishment, a whip or lash, especially for the infliction of punishment or torture.
11:33
He replied: ” Allah will surely bring (the punishment) it on you if He pleases and then you will not be able to escape from it!
11:34
And my advice will not benefit you – although I wished to advise you – If Allah should intend to put you in error. He is your Lord, and to Him you will be returned.”
11:35
Or do they (the pagans of Makkah) say, “He 1 has fabricated this ˹Quran˺!”? Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If I have done so, then I bear the burden of that sin! But I am free from your sinful accusation.”
Meaning:-
Pagans: pagan is a person who worships many gods or who worships nature and the Earth.
Fabricated: invent, falsify, fake, make, create,
Accusation: a charge of wrongdoing, claim that someone has done something illegal or wrong.
11:36
And it was revealed to Nuh: “None of your people will believe now, other than those who have already believed. So do not grieve at their evil deeds.
Meaning:-
Grieve: sadness as a result of a loss, or to cause pain, to cause to suffer.
11:37
And construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration and do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are [to be] drowned.”
11:38
So he started to build the ark; and whenever the chiefs of his people passed by him they laughed at him. He said: “Laugh at us now if you will, soon the time is going to come when we too will laugh at you as you are laughing at us.
Meaning:-
Ark: a large wooden ship built by prophet Noah (PBUH).
11:39
Soon you will come to know who will be seized by a humiliating scourge, and who is afflicted with everlasting punishment.”
Meaning:-
Humiliating: to make someone feel ashamed or lose respect for himself or herself.
Scourge: a whip or lash, especially for the infliction of punishment or torture.
Afflicted: (of a problem or illness) cause pain or suffering to; affect or trouble, burden.
11:40
Finally when Our Command came and the water from Al-Tannur (a particular oven marked as a starting point to warn Nuh in order to get him ready to board the ark) gushed forth! We said to Nuh: “Take into the Ark a pair from every mates, your family – except those against whom the Word has already gone forth – and the believers and those who believed with him were only a few.”
Meaning:-
Ark: a large wooden ship built by prophet Noah (PBUH).
Gushed: To rush or flow with something in an uncontrolled manner.
Mates: partner, each of a pair of birds or other animals.
11:41
Thus he said: “Embark in it, in the name of Allah in whose hands is its sailing and its stopping; surely my Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.”
Meaning:-
Embark: go on board a ship.
11:42
And it sailed with them through waves like mountains, and Noah called to his son who was apart [from them], “O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers.”
11:43
The son replied:: “I will take refuge on some mountain, which will save me from the flood.” Nuh said: “None shall be secure today from the judgement of Allah, except the one on whom He has mercy!” And thereupon a wave came between them and he (Nuh’s son) became among one of those who drowned.
11:44
Finally, Allah said: “O earth! Swallow up your water,” and “O sky! Cease your rain.” The floodwater abated and the judgement was carried out. The ark rested on Mount Al-Judi and it was said: “Gone are the wrongdoing people!”
Meaning:-
Abated: decrease, diminish, lessen.
Ark: a large wooden ship built by prophet Noah (PBUH).
11:45
And Noah called to his Lord and said, “My Lord, indeed my son is of my family; and indeed, Your promise is true; and You are the most just of judges!”
11:46
Allah replied: “O Noah! In fact he is not of your family; for he is not of righteous conduct. So do not ask Me anything of which you have no knowledge! I admonish you, lest you become one of the ignorant!”
Meaning:-
Admonish: to caution, advise, or counsel against something.
Ignorant: lack of knowledge
11:47
Nuh (Noah) said: “O my Lord! I seek refuge with You from asking You that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have Mercy on me, I would indeed be one of the losers.”
11:48
It was said: “O Nuh (Noah)! Disembark (Come down from the ark) with Our peace and blessings on you and on the peoples who are with you. As for other people, We shall grant them the provisions of life for some time, and if they do not behave righteously, then they shall have a painful punishment from Us.”
Meaning:-
Righteous: (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous, very good; excellent.
11:49
O Muhammad, these are some of the facts from the unseen history which We have now revealed to you: neither you nor your people knew about it before. So have patience; surely the end is for the righteous.
11:50
To the people of ‘Ad We sent their brother Hud. He said: “O my people! Worship Allah, you have no god but Him; otherwise you are just making things up.
11:51
O my people! I do not ask you any reward for my services; for none can reward me except my creator. Will you not then use your common sense?
11:52
And O my people! Seek forgiveness of your Lord and turn to Him in repentance. He will send you from the sky abundant rain and He will add strength to your strength. So do not turn away like criminals.”
Meaning:-
Abundant: present in great quantity; more than adequate; over sufficient
11:53
They said, “O Hud, You have not given us any clear proof, and we will never abandon our gods upon your word, nor will we believe in you.
Meaning:-
Abandon: give up completely, to give up; discontinue; withdraw from.
11:54
All we can say is that some of our gods have possessed you with evil.” He said, “I call Allah to witness, and you too bear witness, that I ˹totally˺ reject whatever you associate
Meaning:-
Possessed: Completely controlled by an evil spirit.
11:55
with Him ˹in worship˺. So let all of you plot against me without delay!
11:56
I have put my trust in Allah, Who is my Lord and your Lord. There is no living creature (in the Earth) whose destiny is not controlled by Him. Indeed straight is the Way of my Lord.
11:57
Now, even if you turn away, I have at least conveyed the message with which I was sent to you. Since you have denied Him, my Lord will raise up some other people in your place, and you cannot harm Him in any way. Indeed my Lord is watching over everything.”
11:58
And when Our command came, We saved Hud and those who believed with him, by mercy from Us; and We saved them from a harsh punishment.
11:59
Such were ‘Ad (people). They rejected the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord and disobeyed His Messengers, and followed the command of every proud obstinate (oppressor of the truth, from their leaders).
Meaning:-
Obstinate: stubbornly refusing to change one’s opinion or chosen course of action, despite attempts to persuade one to do so.
