QURAN
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them – out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah , then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account. 3:19
And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers. 3:85
In fact, your religion is one religion, and I am your only Lord: so fear Me Alone. 23:52
QURAN
This (The Qur’an) is nothing but a Reminder to all the people of the world. 68:52
This Book (The Qur’an) which We have sent down to you (O Muhammad) is highly blessed, so that they may ponder upon its verses and the men of understanding may learn a lesson from it. 38:29
But as to those who disbelieved, Allah will say: “Were My verses not recited to you? But you showed arrogance and became a people of criminals”. 45:31
QURAN
Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects – you, [O Muhammad], are not [associated] with them in anything. Their affair is only [left] to Allah ; then He will inform them about what they used to do. 6:159
But the people have divided their religion into sects between them- to Us they shall all return. 21:93
QURAN
Those who divide their religion into sects and become separate groups, each group rejoicing in its own circle. 30:32
But the people divided their religion among them into sects – each faction, in what it has, rejoicing. 23:53
But leave them in their confused ignorance for a time. 23:54
QURAN
Say: “That (this Quran) is a great news, 38:67
This ( Quran) is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds. 38:87
This (the Quran) is but a Message to all the people of the world, 81:27
Quran Chapters
Chapter 7 : Al-A’raf – 206 Verses
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
7:1
Alif-Lam-Mim-Sad. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings].
7:2
This Book is revealed to you; let there be no hesitation in your heart about it so that you may thereby warn the unbelievers and remind the believers.
Meaning:
Hesitation: a delay due to uncertainty of mind or fear, a state of doubt or uncertainty.
7:3
Follow (O mankind) what has been sent down to you from your Lord, and do not take others as guardians besides Him. How seldom are you mindful!
Meaning:
Seldom: not often; rarely, very rarely or almost never
Mindful: conscious or aware of something, having in mind; aware, heedful, or careful
7:4
And how many cities have We destroyed, and Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon.
7:5
And their declaration when Our punishment came to them was only that they said, “Indeed, we were wrongdoers!”
Meaning:-
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
7:6
Then We will surely question those to whom [a message] was sent, and We will surely question the messengers.
7:7
Then We will surely relate [their deeds] to them with knowledge, and We were not [at all] absent.
Meaning:
Meaning of absent: Allah (being all-knowing) is never absent from any place or at any time, for Time and Place are relative conceptions for our limited natures, while He is the Absolute, independent of such relative conceptions.
7:8
The weighing on that Day will be just. As for those whose scale will be heavy ˹with good deeds˺, ˹only˺ they will be successful.
Meaning:
weighing: To have consequence or importance, in order to estimate the weight, to measure
Just: guided by truth, reason, justice, and fairness.
7:9
And those whose scales are light – they are the ones who will lose themselves for what injustice they were doing toward Our verses.
7:10
We have indeed established you on earth and provided you with a means of livelihood. ˹Yet˺ you seldom give any thanks.
Meaning:
livelihood: A person’s livelihood refers to their “means of securing the basic necessities of life.
seldom: not often; rarely, very rarely or almost never
7:11
And We have certainly created you, [O Mankind], and given you [human] form. Then We said to the angels, “Prostrate to Adam”; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was not of those who prostrated.
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
7:12
[ Allah ] said, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” [Satan] said, “I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.”
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
Clay: thick, heavy soil that is soft when wet, and hard when dry or baked, Clay is a kind of earth that is soft when it is wet and hard when it is dry.
7:13
[ Allah ] (Allah) said: “(O Iblis) get down from this (Paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out, for you are of those humiliated and disgraced.”
Meaning:-
Arrogant: a sense of superiority, self-importance, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
Humiliated: make (someone) feel ashamed and foolish by injuring their dignity and self-respect, especially publicly.
Disgraced: the loss of respect, honor, or esteem; ignominy; shame
7:14
[Satan] said, “Reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected.”
Meaning:-
Reprieve: to delay the impending punishment, to delay the punishment.
7:15
Allah said: “The respite you requested is hereby granted.”
Meaning:-
Respite: a period of temporary delay, postpone
7:16
[Satan] said, “Since You let me deviate, now I will lie in ambush for mankind on Your Right Way
Meaning:-
Deviate: change, turn away, to turn aside, depart, as from a route, way, course, etc.
Ambush: to attack by surprise from a hidden place, instance of lying concealed so as to attack by surprise, an act or instance of attacking unexpectedly from a concealed position
7:17
Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You].”
7:18
(Allah) said (to Iblis) “Get out from this (Paradise) disgraced and expelled. Whoever of them (mankind) will follow you, then surely I will fill Hell with you all.”
Meaning:-
disgraced: Disgraced: the loss of respect, honor, or esteem; ignominy; shame.
Expelled: to drive or force out or away
7:19
Allah said: “O Adam! Dwell with your wife in paradise and eat any fruit you please; but never approach this tree or you shall both become wrongdoers.”
Meaning:-
Dwell: live in or at a specified place.
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
7:20
But Shaitan tempted them so that he might reveal to them the private parts of their bodies which they had never seen before. He told them: “Your Lord has forbidden you to approach this tree only to prevent you from becoming angels or immortals.”
Meaning:-
tempted: to attract, appeal strongly to, or invite
Forbidden: prohibit, not allowed, banned.
Immortals: great, hero, legend, god
7:21
And Shaitan swore [by Allah ] to them, “Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors.”
7:22
So Shaitan made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, “Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?”
Meaning:-
deception: Deception is an act or statement which misleads, hides the truth, or promotes a belief, concept, or idea that is not true.
apparent: readily seen; exposed to sight; open to view; visible
Forbid: prohibit, not allowed, banned.
7:23
They said, “Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.”
7:24
(Allah) said: “Get down, one of you an enemy to the other [i.e. Adam, Hawwa (Eve), and Shaitan (Satan), etc.]. On earth will be a dwelling-place for you and an enjoyment, – for a time.”
Meaning:-
Dwelling: a house, apartment, or other place of residence.
7:25
[ Allah ] further said: “Therein you shall live and therein you shall die, and therefrom you shall be raised to life.”
7:26
O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness – that is best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember.
Meaning:-
Bestow: an honor, right, or gift
Conceal: to hide, to keep secret, to prevent or avoid disclosing, keep secret.
Adornment: decoration, embellishment, ornamentation, ornament
Righteous: (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous, very good; excellent.
7:27
O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe.
Meaning:-
tempt: to entice to do wrong by promise of pleasure or gain
Strip: to remove your clothing.
Allies:a person who associates, friendship or cooperates with another; supporter.
7:28
And when they commit an immorality, they say, “We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has ordered us to do it.” Say, “Indeed, Allah does not order immorality. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know?”
Meaning:-
Immorality: corruption, dishonesty, character, or conduct; wickedness; evilness and sexual misconduct.
7:29
Say, [O Muhammad], “My Lord has ordered justice and that you maintain yourselves [in worship of Him] at every place [or time] of prostration, and invoke Him, sincere to Him in religion.” Just as He originated you, you will return [to life] –
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
Invoke: appeal to, pray to, call on.
7:30
A group [of you] He guided, and a group deserved [to be in] error. Indeed, they had taken the devils as allies instead of Allah while they thought that they were guided.
Meaning:-
Allies: help and support
7:31
O Children of Adam! Put on your adornment (decent proper dress) when you attend your Masjid at the time of every prayer. Eat and drink, but do not be extravagant; surely He does not love the extravagant.
Adornment:
Meaning:-
Extravagant: spending much more than is necessary or wise; wasteful
7:32
O Muhammad, ask them: “Who has forbidden you to wear decent clothes or to eat the good food which Allah has provided for His devotees?” Say: “All these things are for the enjoyment of the believers in the life of this world though shared by others; but these shall be exclusively theirs on the Day of Resurrection. Thus do We make Our revelations clear for those who understand.”
Meaning:-
Forbidden:refuse to allow (something), prohibit, not allowed, banned.
Devotee: a strong believer in a particular religion or god, follower, supporter, disciple.
7:33
Say: “My Lord has forbidden all indecencies whether open or secret, sin and rebellion against justice, committing shirk with Allah for which He has granted no sanction, and saying things about Allah of which you have no knowledge.
Meaning:-
Forbidden : refuse to allow (something), prohibit, not allowed, banned.
Rebellion: disobedience, insubordination,
shirk (Arabic) : is the sin of practicing idolatry or polytheism, i.e. the deification or worship of anyone or anything other than the singular God i.e. Allah. Literally, it means ascribing or the establishment of “partners” placed beside God.
sanction: official permission or approval for an action.
7:34
For every nation there is a fixed term, when their term expires, it can neither be delayed for a moment nor can it be made to come early.”
7:35
O children of Adam, if there come to you messengers from among you relating to you My verses, then whoever fears Allah and reforms – there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
Meaning:-
Reform: to put or change into an improved form or condition.
Grieve: mourn, sorrow, sadden, upset, distress.
7:36
But the ones who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them – those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.
Meaning:-
Arrogant: a sense of superiority, self-importance, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
Abide: to remain; continue; stay:
Eternally: without beginning or end; lasting forever
7:37
And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allah a lie or denies His verses? Those will attain their portion of the decree until when Our messengers come to them to take them in death, they will say, “Where are those you used to invoke besides Allah ?” They will say, “They have departed from us,” and will bear witness against themselves that they were disbelievers.
Meaning:-
Invoke: call on (a deity or spirit) in prayer, as a witness, or for inspiration.
7:38
[ Allah ] will say, “Enter among nations which had passed on before you of jinn and mankind into the Fire.” Every time a nation enters, it will curse its sister until, when they have all overtaken one another therein, the last of them will say about the first of them “Our Lord, these had misled us, so give them a double punishment of the Fire. He will say, “For each is double, but you do not know.”
7:39
Then the first will say to the last: “If we were to blame, you too, were no better than us; now taste the punishment of your misdeeds.”
7:40
Indeed, those who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them – the gates of Heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise until a camel enters into the eye of a needle. And thus do We recompense the criminals.
Meaning:-
Arrogant: a sense of superiority, self-importance, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
7:41
They shall have a bed of hell-fire and from above them coverings (of it); and thus do We reward the unjust.
7:42
But those who believe and work righteousness,- no burden do We place on any soul, but that which it can bear,- they will be Companions of the Garden, therein to dwell (for ever).
7:43
And We will have removed whatever is within their breasts of resentment, [while] flowing beneath them are rivers. And they will say, “Praise to Allah , who has guided us to this; and we would never have been guided if Allah had not guided us. Certainly the messengers of our Lord had come with the truth.” And they will be called, “This is Paradise, which you have been made to inherit for what you used to do.”
Meaning:-
Resentment: bitterness, dissatisfaction, irritation, envy, jealousy.
Beneath: below; in or to a lower place, position, underneath
7:44
And the companions of Paradise will call out to the companions of the Fire, “We have already found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you found what your Lord promised to be true?” They will say, “Yes.” Then an announcer will announce among them, “The curse of Allah shall be upon the wrongdoers.”
Meaning:-
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
7:45
Those who hindered (men) from the Path of Allah, and would seek to make it crooked, and they were disbelievers in the Hereafter.
Meaning:-
Hinder: create difficulties or obstruction.
Crooked: dishonest, untrustworthy, corrupt
7:46
There will be a barrier between Paradise and Hell. And on the heights ˹of that barrier˺ will be people who will recognize ˹the residents of˺ both by their appearance. They will call out to the residents of Paradise, “Peace be upon you!” They will have not yet entered Paradise, but eagerly hope to.
Meaning:-
Barrier: gate preventing people entering place, as a railing, fence, wall, that stops people from going somewhere, a limit or boundary of any kind.
7:47
And when their eyes are turned toward the companions of the Fire, they say, “Our Lord, do not place us with the wrongdoing people.”
Meaning:-
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
7:48
Those on the heights will call out to some ˹tyrants in the Fire˺, who they will recognize by their appearance, saying, “Your large numbers and arrogance are of no use ˹today˺!
Meaning:-
Tyrants: a cruel and oppressive ruler, An extremely oppressive, unjust.
Arrogance: offensive display of superiority or self-importance, a sense of superiority, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
Your large numbers: the last lines of this verse are addressed to the Companions of the Fire, reminding them (as a bench of judges might speak to a prisoner) of the futility of their wealth and riches and arrogance in their earthly life.
7:49
Are the residents of paradise not the same people about whom you swore that Allah will never bestow His mercy on them?” Today the same people are being welcomed with the words, “Enter paradise, you have nothing to fear or to regret.”
Meaning:-
Swore is past of swear: : Swore is defined as a promise has been made.
Regret: feel sad, disappointment.
Bestow: an honor, right, an honor, to present as a gift
7:50
Then the inmates of the fire will cry out to the residents of paradise: “Give us some water or some of the food which Allah has provided you.” They will reply: “Allah has prohibited both of these things to the unbelievers,
Meaning:-
Inmate: is a person who lives in a specific place, especially someone who’s confined there, like a prisoner.
7:51
Who took their religion as distraction and amusement and whom the worldly life deluded.” So today We will forget them just as they forgot the meeting of this Day of theirs and for having rejected Our verses.
Meaning:-
Distraction: A distraction is something that takes your attention away from what you’re supposed to be doing.
Amusement: entertains, fun; enjoyment, pleasure,
Deluded: mislead, deceive, fool, to mislead the mind or judgment of; deceive:
7:52
And We had certainly brought them a Book which We detailed by knowledge – as guidance and mercy to a people who believe.
7:53
Now are these people waiting for anything other than the Day of Fulfillment (Day of Judgement)? When the Day of Fulfillment will come, those who have disregarded it, will say: “Indeed the messengers of our Lord had come with the truth. Are there any intercessors now, who could intercede on our behalf? Or could we be sent back so that we would not do as we have done before.” In fact they would have lost their souls and the things they had invented will leave them in the lurch.
Meaning:-
Intercessors: a person who intervenes on behalf of another, especially by prayer.
Intercede: mediate, intermediate, arbitrate, intervene on behalf of another.
Invent: Fabricate, create, to produce or create with the imagination: to invent a story.
7:54
Surely your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six Yome (time periods) and is firmly established on the throne of authority. He makes the night cover the day and the day follow the night automatically. He created the sun, the moon and the stars; and made them subservient to His will. Take note: His is the creation, and His is the command. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds!
Meaning:-
Subservient: serving or acting in a subordinate capacity; subordinate.
six Yome (time periods): The word day is not always used in the Quran to mean a 24-hour period. According to 22:47, a heavenly Day is 1000 years of our time. The Day of Judgment will be 50 000 years of our time (see 70:4). Hence, the six Days of creation refer to six eons (Eon means: a unit of time equal to a billion years. of time, known only by Allah.)
7:55
Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors.
Meaning:-
Transgressors: a person who is actually breaking the law, offend; sin.
7:56
Do not create corruption in the land after it has been set in order. Pray to Him with fear and hope. Surely the mercy of Allah is always close to those who do good to others.
7:57
He is the One Who sends the winds bearing good news of His blessings, so when they lift up heavy clouds, We drive them along to a dead countryside and make the rain fall upon it and bring forth all kinds of fruits from the same dead land. Likewise We will raise the dead to life; this example is given so that you may learn a lesson from this observation.
7:58
The vegetation of a good land comes forth (easily) by the Permission of its Lord, and that which is bad, brings forth nothing but a little with difficulty. Thus do We explain variously the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) for a people who give thanks.
7:59
We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, “O my people, worship Allah ; you have no deity other than Him. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day.
Meaning:-
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
Dreadful: causing or involving great suffering, fear, or unhappiness; extremely bad or serious.
7:60
The leaders of his people said: “Verily, we see you in plain error.”
7:61
[Noah] said, “O my people, there is not error in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.”
7:62
I convey to you the messages of my Lord and advise you; and I know from Allah what you do not know.
7:63
Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you and that you may fear Allah so you might receive mercy.”
7:64
But they denied him, so We saved him and those who were with him in the ship. And We drowned those who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a blind people.
7:65
And to the ‘Aad [We sent] their brother Hud. He said, “O my people, worship Allah ; you have no deity other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?”
Meaning:-
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
7:66
The disbelieving chiefs of his people responded, “We surely see you as a fool, and we certainly think you are a liar.”
7:67
[Hud] said, “O my people, there is not foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.”
7:68
I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am to you a trustworthy adviser.
7:69
Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you? And remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you in stature extensively. So remember the favors of Allah that you might succeed.
Meaning:-
Stature: importance or reputation gained by ability or achievement.
Extensively: to a large or detailed degree, In an extensive manner, widely.
7:70
They said, “Have you come to us that we should worship Allah alone and leave what our fathers have worshipped? Then bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the truthful.”
7:71
[Hud] said, “The punishment and the anger from your Lord have fallen upon you. Do you dispute with me regarding the so-called gods which you and your forefathers have made up—a practice Allah has never authorized? Then wait! I too am waiting with you.”
7:72
So We saved him and his companions by Our mercy and We cut off the roots of (annihilated) those who denied Our revelations and did not become believers.
Meaning:-
Annihilated: completely destroying, to cause to cease to exist : to do away with entirely so that nothing remains, destroy utterly; obliterate.
7:73
And to the Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, “O my people, worship Allah ; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allah [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allah ‘s land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment.
Meaning:-
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
7:74
Remember when He made you successors after ’Âd and established you in the land—˹and˺ you built palaces on its plains and carved homes into mountains. So remember Allah’s favours, and do not go about spreading corruption in the land.”
Meaning:-
Successor: someone with important position after someone else, someone who takes a job or position previously held by someone else
7:75
The arrogant leaders of his people asked the lowly who believed among them, “Are you certain that Ṣâliḥ has been sent by his Lord?” They replied, “We certainly believe in what he has been sent with.”
Meaning:-
Arrogant: a sense of superiority, self-importance, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
Lowly: low in status or importance; humble.
7:76
The arrogant said, “We surely reject what you believe in.”
Meaning:-
Arrogant: a sense of superiority, self-importance, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
7:77
Then they killed the she-camel—defying their Lord’s command—and challenged ˹Ṣâliḥ˺, “Bring us what you threaten us with, if you are ˹truly˺ one of the messengers.”
Meaning:
Defying: openly resist or refuse to obey.
7:78
Thereupon an earthquake overtook them and they became lifeless bodies in their homes with their faces down.
7:79
Saleh left them saying: “O my people! I did indeed convey to you the message of my Lord and gave you good advice but you did not love the good advisers.”
7:80
We also selected Lut, who said to his people: “Will you do such indecent acts as no one else in the world has committed before you?
7:81
You satisfy your lust with men (homosexual) instead of women. Indeed you are a nation who has transgressed beyond bounds.”
Meaning:-
Lust: very strong sexual desire.
Transgress: to violate a law, command, moral code, etc.; offend; sin.
7:82
His people had no answer but to say: “Drive them out of your town, they pose to be very pious!”
Meaning:-
Pious: having or showing a dutiful spirit of reverence for God or an earnestwish to fulfill religious obligations.
7:83
So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who remained [with the evildoers].
7:84
And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals.
7:85
And to (the people of) Madyan (Midian), (We sent) their brother Shu’aib. He said: “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. [La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)].” Verily, a clear proof (sign) from your Lord has come unto you; so give full measure and full weight and wrong not men in their things, and do not mischief on the earth after it has been set in order, that will be better for you, if you are believers.
7:86
Do not sit in ambush on every road to threaten people and hinder from the Way of Allah those who believe in Him, seeking to make His Way crooked. Remember how He multiplied you when you were a few in number and see what was the end of the mischief-makers of prior nations.
Meaning:-
Ambush: an act or instance of lying concealed so as to attack by surprise, a surprise attack by people lying in wait in a concealed position.
Hinder: create difficulties for (someone or something), resulting in delay or obstruction.
Crooked: not straight; dishonest and likely to do illegal things, a dishonest person.
7:87
If there are some among you who believe in the message with which I have been sent and others who disbelieve it, then be patient until Allah judges between us, for He is the best of all judges.”
7:88
The chiefs (leaders ) of those who were arrogant among his people said: “We shall certainly drive you out, O Shu’aib, and those who have believed with you from our town, or else you (all) shall return to our religion.” He said: “Even though we hate it!
Meaning:-
Arrogant: a sense of superiority, self-importance, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
7:89
“We should have invented a lie against Allah if we returned to your religion, after Allah has rescued us from it. And it is not for us to return to it unless Allah, our Lord, should will. Our Lord comprehends all things in His Knowledge. In Allah (Alone) we put our trust. Our Lord! Judge between us and our people in truth, for You are the Best of those who give judgment.”
Meaning:-
Rescued: save (someone) from a dangerous or distressing situation.
Comprehend: to understand something completely:
7:90
The leaders who disbelieved from among his nation said: “If you follow Shu`aib, you shall indeed be losers!”
7:91
Thereupon an earthquake overtook them and they become lifeless bodies in their homes with their faces down.

Those who denied Shu’ayb – it was as though they had never resided there. Those who denied Shu’ayb – it was they who were the losers.
7:93
Shu`aib left them saying: “O my people! I did indeed convey to you the messages of my Lorf and I did give you good advice; how shall I then be sorry for the nation that refuses to believe?”
7:94
Whenever We sent a Prophet to a town We afflicted its people with adversity and misfortunes so that they might humble themselves.
Meaning:-
Afflict: (of a problem or illness) cause pain or suffering to; affect or trouble.
Adversity: bad luck, trouble, difficulty, hardship, distress, disaster, suffering.
7:95
Then We changed the evil for the good, until they increased in number and in wealth, and said: “Our fathers were touched with evil (loss of health and calamities) and with good (prosperity, etc.).” So We seized them of a sudden while they were unaware.
7:96
And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah , We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning.”
7:97
Then, did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them at night while they were asleep?
7:98
Or did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them in the morning while they were at play?
7:99
Then did they feel secure from the plan of Allah ? But no one feels secure from the plan of Allah except the losing people.
7:100
Is it not clear to those who take over the land after ˹the destruction of˺ its former residents that—if We will—We can punish them ˹too˺ for their sins and seal their hearts so they will not hear ˹the truth˺?
7:101
Those cities – We relate to you, [O Muhammad], some of their news. And certainly did their messengers come to them with clear proofs, but they were not to believe in that which they had denied before. Thus does Allah seal over the hearts of the disbelievers.
7:102
We did not find most of them true to their covenant; but indeed, We found most of them defiantly disobedient.
Meaning:-
Covenant: a pledge or promise; obligation, commitment, undertaking.
7:103
Then We sent after them Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh (Fir’on) and his establishment, but they were unjust toward them. So see how was the end of the corrupters.
Meaning:-
Corrupt (corrupters means one who corrupts): guilty of dishonest practices, as bribery; lacking integrity
7:104
And Moses said, “O Pharaoh (Fir’on), I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds
7:105
[Who is] obligated not to say about Allah except the truth. I have come to you with clear evidence from your Lord, so send with me the Children of Israel.”
Meaning:-
Obligated: restricted to a particular condition of life, restricted to a particular function or mode of life.
7:106
[Pharaoh] Fir’on said, “If you have come with a sign, then bring it forth, if you should be of the truthful

So Musa threw down his staff and all of a sudden it became a real serpent.
Meaning:-
Serpent: a snake.
7:108
Then he drew out his hand from his pocket and it became shining white to all the beholders.
Meaning:-
beholders: an observers
7:109
The chiefs of Fir’on’s nation said: “He indeed is a skilled magician
7:110
who intends to drive you out from your land.” Fir’on asked: “So what do you propose?”
7:111
They replied, “Let him and his brother wait and send mobilizers to all cities
Meaning:-
mobilizers: to be or become assembled, organized.
7:112
and summon every skillful magician to you
7:113
And so the magicians came to Fir’aun (Pharaoh). They said: “Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors.”
7:114
“Yes,” he answered. “Not only reward but more: you shall certainly become my favored friends.”
7:115
They said, “O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first].”
7:116
Musa said, “Throw,” and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic.
Meaning:-
Bewitch: to attract or interest someone a lot so that you have the power to influence them
7:117
We inspired Musa to cast his staff. No sooner did he cast his staff than it became a serpent and began to swallow up the creation of their magicians!
Meaning:-
cast:throw (something) forcefully in a specified direction.
Serpent: a snake.
7:118
So the truth prevailed and their illusions failed.
Meaning:-
Prevail: prove more powerful than opposing forces; be victorious.
illusion: an idea or opinion that is wrong, a false idea or belief.
7:119
Fir’on and his people were defeated and put to humiliation,
Meaning:-
Humiliate: Embarrassment and shame you feel when someone makes you appear stupid, or when you make a mistake in public.
7:120
and the magicians, since they were professionals and knew that it was not magician, fell down in prostration, [to Allah ].
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
7:121
They said, “We have believed in the Lord of the worlds,
7:122
The Lord of Moses and Aaron.”
7:123
Fir’on said: “How do you dare to believe in Him without my permission? In fact this was a plot which you all had planned to drive the people out of their city, but soon you will know its consequences.
Meaning:-
Consequences: A result or effect of an action or condition.
7:124
I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all.”
Meaning:-
Crucify: put (someone) to death by nailing or binding them to a cross, especially as an ancient punishment.
7:125
They said, “Indeed, to our Lord we will return.
7:126
Your rage towards us is only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance, and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You].”
Meaning:-
rage: feel or express violent uncontrollable anger.
perseverance: continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.
7:127
The chiefs of Fir’on’s (Pharaoh’s) nation asked him: “Will you leave Musa (Moses) and his nation free to commit corruption in the land and to forsake you and your gods?” He said: “We will put their sons to death and spare their daughters; we have irresistible power over them.”
Meaning:-
Forsake: to quit or leave entirely
Irresistible: too powerful or convincing to be resisted.
7:128
Musa said to his people: “Seek help from Allah and be patient. The land belongs to Allah. He gives it as a heritage to those of His devotees whom He pleases. You should know that final success is for the righteous.”
Meaning:-
Heritage: from one generation to the next, property that descends to an heir.
Devotee: a strong believer in a particular religion or god, follower, supporter, disciple.
Righteous: (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous, very good; excellent.
7:129
They said, “We have been harmed before you came to us and after you have come to us.” He said, “Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy and grant you succession in the land and see how you will do.”
7:130
We afflicted Fir’on’s people with several years of famine and shortages of fruit so that they might come to their senses.
Meaning:-
Afflict: (of a problem or illness) cause pain or suffering to; affect or trouble.
Famine: extreme shortage of food
7:131
But whenever they had good times they said “It is our due,” and whenever evil befell them they ascribed that bad luck to Musa and those with him. Behold! In fact their misfortune was in the hands of Allah; yet most of them do not know.
Meaning:-
Ascribe: attribute something to (a cause), attribute to.
7:132
They said to Musa: “No matter what sign you may bring us to put your magic spell, we are not going to believe you.”
7:133
So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood as distinct signs, but they were arrogant and were a criminal people.
Meaning:-
Locust: a large insect found in hot areas that flies in large groups and destroys plants and crops:
Arrogant: a sense of superiority, self-importance, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
7:134
Every time the plague befell them, they said: “O Musa! Pray for us to your Lord as He has made the promise with you, if you help remove the plague from us, we shall truly believe in you and send the Children of Israel with you.”
Meaning:-
Plague: cause continual trouble or distress to, a disease that causes death and that spreads quickly to a large number of people
7:135
But every time We removed the plague from them and the appointed time for the release of the Children of Israel came, lo! They broke their promise.

So We took retribution from them, and We drowned them in the sea because they denied Our signs and were heedless of them.
Meaning:-
Retribution: deserved and severe punishment, penalty
Heedless: neglectful, not careful or attentive : careless.
7:137
And We made the people who were considered weak to inherit the eastern parts of the land and the western parts thereof which We have blessed. And the fair Word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because of their endurance. And We destroyed completely all the great works and buildings which Fir’aun (Pharaoh) and his people erected.
Inherit: receive or be left with (a situation, object, etc.) from a predecessor or former owner.
Endurance: unpleasant, or painful for a long time.
Erected: construct (a building, wall, or other upright structure).
7:138
We made the Children of Israel cross the (Red) sea. On their way they came across a people who were worshipping their idols. They said: “O Musa (Moses) fashion for us an Ilah (a god for worship) like the gods of these people.” He replied: “You are indeed very ignorant people,
Meaning:-
Ignorant: not having enough knowledge, understanding, or information about something
7:139
Indeed, those [worshippers] – destroyed is that in which they are [engaged], and worthless is whatever they were doing.”
7:140
He further said: “Should I seek for you a god for worship other than Allah: when it is He who has exalted you above all the worlds
Meaning:-
Exalted: placed at a high or powerful level; held in high regard.
7:141
And [recall, O Children of Israel], when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh( Fir’on), [who were] afflicting you with the worst torment – killing your sons and keeping your women alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.
Meaning:-
Afflict: (of a problem or illness) cause pain or suffering to; affect or trouble.
Torment: severe physical or mental suffering.
7:142
We appointed for Moses thirty nights then added another ten—completing his Lord’s term of forty nights. Moses commanded his brother Aaron (Haroon), “Take my place among my people, do what is right, and do not follow the way of the corruptors.”
7:143
When Musa came to Our appointed place and his Lord spoke to him, he asked: “O my Lord! Give me power of sight to see You.” He answered: “You cannot see Me. Look at the mountain; if it remains firm in its place then soon you might be able to see Me”. When his Lord manifested His glory on the mountain, it turned into small pieces of fine dust and Musa fell down unconscious. When Musa recovered he said: “Glory be to You! Accept my repentance and I am the first of the believers.”
Meaning:-
Manifest: to show something clearly, through signs or actions
7:144
[ Allah ] said, “O Moses, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My words [to you]. So take what I have given you and be among the grateful.”
7:145
We wrote for him on the Tablets ˹the fundamentals˺ of everything; commandments and explanations of all things. ˹We commanded,˺ “Hold to this firmly and ask your people to take the best of it. I will soon show ˹all of˺ you the home of the rebellious.
Meaning:-
Tablet: a flat slab of stone, clay, or wood, used especially for an inscription.
Rebellious: disobedient, insubordinate.
7:146
I will turn away from My signs those who are arrogant upon the earth without right; and if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. And if they see the way of consciousness, they will not adopt it as a way; but if they see the way of error, they will adopt it as a way. That is because they have denied Our signs and they were heedless of them.
Meaning:-
Arrogant: a sense of superiority, self-importance, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.
Heedless: neglectful, not careful or attentive : careless.
7:147
Those who denied Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter – their deeds have become worthless. Are they recompensed except for what they used to do?
7:148
In his absence the nation of Musa (Moses) made an image of a calf for worship from their jewelry which produced a mooing sound. Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor give them the guidance? Yet they took it for worship and became wrongdoers.
Meaning:-
Calf: a young cow,
Moo: the sound that a cow makes
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
7:149
When they felt ashamed about what they had done and realized that they had gone astray, they said: “If our Lord does not have mercy on us and pardon us, we shall become losers.”
Meaning:-
Astray: into error, away from the correct path or direction
7:150
And when Musa (Moses) returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said: “What an evil thing is that which you have done (i.e. worshipping the calf) during my absence. Did you hasten and go ahead as regards the matter of your Lord (you left His worship)?” And he threw down the Tablets and seized his brother by (the hair of) his head and dragged him towards him. Harun (Aaron) said: “O son of my mother! Indeed the people judged me weak and were about to kill me, so make not the enemies rejoice over me, nor put me amongst the people who are Zalimun (wrong-doers).”
Meaning:-
Grieve : mourn, sorrow, to feel or express great sadness.
Calf: a young cow,
Tablet: a flat slab of stone, clay, or wood, used especially for an inscription.
Rejoice: feel or show great joy or delight.
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
7:151
[Moses] said, “My Lord, forgive me and my brother and admit us into Your mercy, for You are the most merciful of the merciful.”
7:152
Indeed, those who took the calf [for worship] will obtain anger from their Lord and humiliation in the life of this world, and thus do We recompense those who invent lies.
Meaning:-
Calf: a young cow,
7:153
But those who commit evil, then repent and become ˹true˺ believers, your Lord will certainly be All-Forgiving, Most-Merciful.
7:154
When Musa’s anger calmed down he took up the Holy Tablets in whose writing there was guidance and mercy for those that fear their Lord.
Meaning:-
Tablet: a flat slab of stone, clay, or wood, used especially for an inscription.
7:155
And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment. And when the earthquake seized them, he said, “My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me [as well]. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is not but Your trial by which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers.
Meaning:-
Astray: into error, away from the correct path or direction
7:156
And decree for us in this world [that which is] good and [also] in the Hereafter; indeed, we have turned back to You.” [ Allah ] said, “My punishment – I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things.” So I will decree it [especially] for those who fear Me and give zakah and those who believe in Our verses
Meaning:-
Afflict: (of a problem or illness) cause pain or suffering to; affect or trouble.
zakah (Arabic): Charity, a tax, comprising percentages of personal income of every kind, levied as almsgiving for the relief of the poor
7:157
Now, special mercy is assigned to those who follow the prophet, the unlettered Prophet (Muhammad) – whom they shall find described in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel). Who enjoins them what is good and forbids what is evil; makes pure things Halal (lawful) for them and impure things Haram (unlawful); relieves them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that were around their necks. Therefore, those who believe in him, honor him, help him, and follow the Light which is sent down with him will be the ones who will be successful in this life and the hereafter”.
Meaning:-
Unlettered: illiterate, uneducated.
Forbid: refuse to allow (something), prohibit, not allowed, banned.
Yoke: collar, coupling, a wooden bar or frame by which two work animals (as oxen) are harnessed at the heads or necks for drawing a plow or load.
7:158
Say, [O Muhammad], “O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death.” So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allah and His words, and follow him that you may be guided.
Meaning:-
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
Unlettered: illiterate, uneducated.
7:159
And among the people of Moses is a community which guides by truth and by it establishes justice.
7:160
And We divided them into twelve tribes (as distinct) nations. We directed Musa (Moses) by inspiration, when his people asked him for water, (saying): “Strike the stone with your stick”, and there gushed forth out of it twelve springs: each group knew its own place for water. We shaded them with the clouds and sent down upon them Al-Manna and the quails (saying): “Eat of the good things with which We have provided you.” They harmed Us not but they used to harm themselves.
Meaning:-
Tribe: a group of people of the same race, language, and customs.
gushed: to flow or pour out in large amounts Water gushed from the fountain.
7:161
And [mention, O Muhammad], when it was said to them, “Dwell in this city and eat from it wherever you will and say, ‘Relieve us of our burdens,’ and enter the gate bowing humbly; We will [then] forgive you your sins. We will increase the doers of good [in goodness and reward].”
Meaning:-
Dwell: to live or stay as a permanent resident; reside.
Doers: the person who does something.
7:162
But those who wronged among them changed [the words] to a statement other than that which had been said to them. So We sent upon them a punishment from the sky for the wrong that they were doing.
7:163
Ask them ˹O Prophet˺ about ˹the people of˺ the town which was by the sea, who broke the Sabbath (i.e. Saturday). During the Sabbath , ˹abundant˺ fish would come to them clearly visible, but on other days the fish were never seen. In this way We tested them for their rebelliousness.
Meaning:-
Sabbath: the seventh day of the week, Saturday, as the day of rest and religious observance among Jews and some Christians or any special day of prayer or rest resembling the Sabbath: Friday is the Muslim Sabbath.
abundant: existing or available in large quantities; plentiful.
rebelliousness: disobedience, noncompliance – the failure to obey
7:164
And when a community among them said, “Why do you advise [or warn] a people whom Allah is [about] to destroy or to punish with a severe punishment?” they [the advisors] said, “To be absolved before your Lord and perhaps they may fear Him.
Meaning:-
Absolve: to officially remove guilt or responsibility for something wrong that someone has done or might have done:
7:165
And when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We saved those who had forbidden evil and seized those who wronged, with a wretched punishment, because they were defiantly disobeying.
Meaning:-
Forbidden: refuse to allow (something), prohibit, not allowed, banned.
Wretched: very poor in quality or ability.
7:166
But when they stubbornly persisted in violation, We said to them, “Be disgraced apes!”
Meaning:-
stubbornly: in a way that shows you are determined not to change your opinion or attitude.
persisted: To hold firmly and steadfastly to a purpose, state, or undertaking despite obstacles, warnings, or setbacks.
Disgraced: Loss of honor, respect, or reputation; shame. dishonor or is dishonorable or shameful.
apes: imitate the behavior or manner of (someone or something), especially in an absurd or unthinking way, a large primate that lacks a tail, including the gorilla, chimpanzees, orangutan, and gibbons.
7:167
And ˹remember, O Prophet,˺ when your Lord declared that He would send against them others who would make them suffer terribly until the Day of Judgment. Indeed, your Lord is swift in punishment, but He is certainly All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Meaning:-
Swift: happening quickly or promptly.
7:168
We broke their unity as a nation and dispersed them into different communities all over the earth – some of them are righteous and others are the opposite – We tested them with both blessings and misfortunes so that they might turn to the Right Way.
Meaning:-
Disperse: distribute, spread, scatter.
Righteous: (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous, very good; excellent.
7:169
Then they were succeeded by other generations who inherited the Scripture. They indulged in unlawful gains, claiming, “We will be forgiven ˹after all˺.” And if similar gain came their way, they would seize it. Was a covenant not taken from them in the Scripture that they would not say anything about Allah except the truth? And they were already well-versed in its teachings. But the ˹eternal˺ Home of the Hereafter is far better for those mindful ˹of Allah˺. Will you not then understand?
Meaning:-
indulged: become involved in (an activity, typically one that is undesirable or disapproved of).
Covenant: Commitment, guarantee. contract, agreement, undertaking.
Eternal: lasting or existing forever; without end or beginning.
And there followed them successors who inherited the Scripture [while] taking the commodities of this lower life and saying, “It will be forgiven for us.” And if an offer like it comes to them, they will [again] take it. Was not the covenant of the Scripture taken from them that they would not say about Allah except the truth, and they studied what was in it? And the home of the Hereafter is better for those who fear Allah , so will you not use reason?
Meaning:-
Covenant: contract, agreement, undertaking, commitment, guarantee, pledge, promise.
7:170
As for those who firmly abide by the Scripture and establish prayer—surely We never let the reward of such righteous people go waste.
Meaning:-
abide:accept or act in accordance with (a rule, decision, or recommendation).
7:171
And ˹remember˺ when We raised the mountain over them as if it were a cloud and they thought it would fall on them. 1 ˹We said,˺ “Hold firmly to that ˹Scripture˺ which We have given you and observe its teachings so perhaps you will become mindful ˹of Allah˺.”
Meaning:-
Firmly: strongly and tightly.
7:172
And (remember) when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their seed (or from Adam’s loin his offspring) and made them testify as to themselves (saying): “Am I not your Lord?” They said: “Yes! We testify,” lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection: “Verily, we have been unaware of this.”
Meaning:-
Loin: the region of the sexual organs, especially when regarded as the source of erotic.
Offspring: children, sons and daughters, family.
7:173
or lest you should say: “Our forefathers started the practice of shirk and we just followed, being their descendants. Will you then destroy us on account of following the sin committed by those wrongdoers?”
Meaning:-
Descendants: a person who is related to you and who lives after you, such as your child or grandchild, successor, disciple.
shirk (Arabic) : is the sin of practicing idolatry or polytheism, i.e. the deification or worship of anyone or anything other than the singular God i.e. Allah. Literally, it means ascribing or the establishment of “partners” placed beside God.
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.
7:174
And thus do We [explain in] detail the verses, and perhaps they will return.
7:175
And recite to them, [O Muhammad], the news of him to whom we gave [knowledge of] Our signs, but he detached himself from them; so Satan pursued him, and he became of the deviators.
Meaning:-
Detached: unconnected, Separated, disconnected.
Pursued: capture, follow (someone or something) in order to catch or attack them.
Deviator: To turn aside from a course or way: hikers who deviated from the main path.
7:176
If We had willed, We would have elevated him with Our signs, but he clung to this life—following his evil desires. His example is that of a dog: if you chase it away, it pants, and if you leave it, it ˹still˺ pants. This is the example of the people who deny Our signs. So narrate ˹to them˺ stories ˹of the past˺, so perhaps they will reflect.
Meaning:
Elevated: high or important, more important or higher in status; at a high level mentally or morally.
Clung: attached or became emotionally attached.
Pant: breathe quickly and loudly with your mouth open, because you have been doing something energetic.
Reflect: think deeply or carefully about.
7:177
How evil an example [is that of] the people who denied Our signs and used to wrong themselves.
7:178
Whoever Allah guides – he is the [rightly] guided; and whoever He sends astray – it is those who are the losers.
Meaning:-
Astray: into error, away from the correct path or direction
7:179
Indeed, We have destined many jinn and humans for Hell. They have hearts they do not understand with, eyes they do not see with, and ears they do not hear with. They are like cattle. In fact, they are even less guided! Such ˹people˺ are ˹entirely˺ heedless.
Meaning:-
Jinn: (Arabian) an intelligent spirit of lower rank than the angels, able to appear in human and animal forms and to possess humans.
Cattle: similar animals of a group related to domestic cattle, including yak, bison, and buffalo. a group of animals that includes cows, buffalo, and bison,
Heedless: neglectful, not careful or attentive : careless.
7:180
Allah has the Most Beautiful Names. So call upon Him by them, and keep away from those who abuse His Names. They will be punished for what they used to do.
Meaning:-
Abuse: to use insulting, coarse, or bad language about or to; revile, use (something) to bad effect or for a bad purpose; misuse.
7:181
And among those We created is a group that guides with the truth and establishes justice accordingly.
7:182
But those who deny Our signs – We will progressively lead them [to destruction] from where they do not know.
7:183
And I will give them time. Indeed, my plan is firm.
7:184
Then do they not give thought? There is in their companion [Muhammad] no madness. He is not but a clear warner.
Meaning:
Companion: accompany. associate, a person with whom one spends a lot of time.
7:185
Have they not pondered the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and whatever Allah has created, and that maybe their hour of death has come closer? In what message after this would they then believe?
Meaning:-
Ponder: to think carefully about something.
7:186
Whoever Allah sends astray – there is no guide for him. And He leaves them in their transgression, wandering blindly.
Meaning:-
Astray: into error, away from the correct path or direction
Transgression: offense, crime, sin, wrong, wrongdoing, misdemeanor.
Wandering: traveling aimlessly from place to place
7:187
They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival? Say, “Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly.” They ask you as if you are familiar with it. Say, “Its knowledge is only with Allah, but most of the people do not know.”
Meaning:-
Hour: Day of Judgment.
7:188
Say (O Prophet), “I have no power to benefit or protect myself, except by the Will of Allah. If I had knowledge of the unseen, I would have benefited myself enormously, and no harm would have ever touched me. I am only a warner and deliverer of good news for those who believe.”
Meaning:-
Enormously: to a very great degree or extent; considerably.
7:189
He is the one who created you from a single being and from that being He created his mate, so that he might find comfort with her. When he covers her, she conceives a light burden and walks around with it. When it grows heavy they both pray to Allah their Lord saying: “If You will grant us a healthy child, we will be truly thankful.”
7:190
But when He gives them a healthy child they both began to associate partners with Him in what He has given them; but Allah is exalted far above the shirk they commit of associating other deities with Him as His partners.
Meaning:-
Exalted: placed at a high or powerful level; held in high regard.
shirk (Arabic) : is the sin of practicing idolatry or polytheism, i.e. the deification or worship of anyone or anything other than the singular God i.e. Allah. Literally, it means ascribing or the establishment of “partners” placed beside God.
Deity: God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess, Fake God.
7:191
Do they associate ˹with Allah˺ those ˹Idols˺ which cannot create anything, but are in fact created;
Meaning:-
Idols: an image or representation of a god used as an object of worship, Fake Gods.
7:192
they have neither the ability to help them, nor can they help themselves?
7:193
And if you ˹idolaters˺ call upon them for guidance, they cannot respond to you. It is all the same whether you call them or remain silent.
Meaning:-
Idolaters: a person who worships an idol or idols (fake Gods).
7:194
Those ˹idols˺ you invoke besides Allah are created beings like yourselves. So call upon them and see if they will answer you, if your claims are true!
Meaning:-
Idols: an image or representation of a god used as an object of worship, Fake Gods.
invoke: pray to, call on, appeal to, call on (a deity or spirit) in prayer, as a witness, or for inspiration.
Being: a person, any living creature.
7:195
Do they have feet to walk with? Or hands to hold with? Or eyes to see with? Or ears to hear with? Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Call upon your associate-gods and conspire against me without delay!
Meaning:-
Conspire: to do something wrong, evil, harmful.
7:196
“Indeed, my Protector is Allah Who has revealed this Book. For He ˹alone˺ protects the righteous.
7:197
But those ˹false gods˺ you call besides Him can neither help you nor even themselves.”
7:198
If you call them to guidance, they cannot even hear what you say, although it appears as if they are looking at you, they do not see.
7:199
Be gracious, speak for justice and avoid the ignorant.
Meaning:-
gracious: courteous, kind, and pleasant.
Ignorant: not having enough knowledge, understanding, or information about something
7:200
If Shaitan tempts you, seek refuge with Allah; for He is the one Who is All Hearing, Knowing.
Meaning:-
Shaitan: in Islāmic myth, an unbelieving class of jinn (“spirits”); it is also the name of Iblīs, the devil.
refuge:-: shelter, protection, safety, security, asylum.
7:201
Those who fear Allah, when they are tempted by Shaitan, they have but to remember Allah and they shall see the light (see ˹things˺ clearly)!
Meaning:-
Shaitan: in Islāmic myth, an unbelieving class of jinn (“spirits”); it is also the name of Iblīs, the devil.
light: Guidance (Hidayat)
7:202
As for Shaitan’s brothers, they drag them deeper into error and never relax their efforts
Meaning:
Explanation of Ayat:-We go back to consider the ungodly, whom we left at verse 198, in order to be taught our behaviour towards evil. The forces of evil never relax their efforts to draw their “brethren” (those who go into their family) deeper and deeper into the mire of sin and destruction.
7:203
When you, O Muhammad, do not bring them a revelation, they ask, “Why do you not make it yourself?” Say, “I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This ˹Quran˺ is an insight from your Lord—a guide and a mercy for those who believe.”
Meaning:-
Insight: able to see or understand something clearly.
7:204
So when the Qur’an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy.
7:205
Bring your Lord to remembrance deep in your soul with humility and in reverence without raising your voice, both in the mornings and in the evenings; and be not of those who are heedless.
Meaning:-
Reverence: high esteem, high regard, great respect,
Heedless: neglectful, not careful or attentive : careless.
7:206
Surely those who are close to your Lord do not feel too proud to worship Him; they declare His glory and prostrate themselves before Him.
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
